Yeah, great achievement FsFOOT. I hope your efforts will have some effect on the remaining EAW community, be it old or new players. Don't pay any attention to the doubting Thomass's elsewhere but proceed in your efforts. Anything will help to keep EAW alive! It's a great game. If you like you can try my version, :) VBH

Problem with EAW @ Windows 7

Try to switch off as many unnnecessary processes as possible, especially automatic updates, many can interfere with the game when it starts from the cache file or from memory as parts can be overwritten even while the game is running. Allways use a freshly rebooted machine, this to prevent other processes from overwriting data residing in memory after subsequent runs. Have you tried the original game using the 1.26 patch available here: http://www.sandbagger.uk.com/EAWKeyFiles/EAW1_26Epatch.zip If necessary use the D3D Windower program and/or a Glidewrapper to get it to work and use the same install procedure as you've used previously. You can have as many copies of the game on your drive as you like, so no need to abandon your 1.28 install. Like with Vista, Windows7 doesn't like tampering with installs, run the game as an admin and take full ownership of the entire gamefolder. VonBeerhofen http://www.europeanairwar.net/

    Starting with EAW Now

Hi Cu-Melter, operating systems are no longer a problem when the 1.26 patch is applied http://www.sandbagger.uk.com/EAWKeyFiles/EAW1_26Epatch.zip Videocards/drivers and the 7217 error are the main causes for not being able to run EAW. This error, when shown, signals that your hardware no longer supports 640*480 desktop resolution in 8 bit mode (256 colors). A workaround for this is to copy the contents of the EAW CD onto your C drive and subsequently install a freeware program called D3D Windower and point that program to the EAW.EXE in your gamefolder of the copied CD. After setting screenresolution and a few other parameters (experiment with them as there's not much you can play with), you should be able to run the game in windowed mode. Reboot your computer after the installs and before you give the game a try. Also most videocards allow special game configurations to be saved, try tweaking your card in the video control panel, sometimes this can help. Start with switching off most or all accelleration options and turn em back on one by one to see if any of them causes or solves the problem. Also make sure that the EAW.INI (editable with notepad) in your gamefolder contains a supported resolution under Width and Height (see desktop settings), according to an original Microprose note preferrably set both to the same resolution. Good luck VonBeerhofen http://www.europeanairwar.net/

Patch order and Url links for EAW from V1.2a

Hi there, sorry for the late response but here it is. First of all do NOT try to install the game but copy all the files from the CD onto your C drive into an empty folder. Then try running the eaw.exe from within that folder. Make sure you have show hidden files, folders and system files and show known filetypes activated in your folder options, this to allow Windows to copy/paste everything from the CD. If the game runs you can either upgrade to 1.1 or 1.2, you can skip 1.1 but it's still interesting as AI in this version are ferocious. If you get a 7217 error, then your videocard doesn't support the game's 8 bit graphics or it's 640*480 screens and your only option is to get your hands on the unofficial 1.28 patch, which largely cures this problem. If one of your archives/files on the CD are dammaged I can provide you with a downloadable version to replace it at: http://www.chatzy.com/251310437564 That should allow you to burn the original game onto a new CD for many more years of fun (provided you can get it to work ofcourse). Best visiting times are between 16.00PM and 04.00AM General Mean Time (Europe). BTW if you really want a new game CD, try E-bay. Good luck, VonBeerhofen http://www.europeanairwar.net/ Home of the FXEXE

    New modder difficulties.

It may be a bit too late for this reply but most tools for EAW require the install of the Visual Basic 6 or later runtime files. Hope you're still around! I may not be able to check back on this but if you need more info on this send me an e-mail to: se023166@12move.nl and I'll try to get back to you asap VonBeerhofen

    A new EAW.exe for testing

http://groups.msn.com/THEEAWLAUNCHPAD/_Home Home of the AFB package and much more, the only place to still fly EAW online, without any cumbersome solutions which don't work anyhow. All you need is a working CD version and we'll take it form there. VonBeerhofen

The carrier is static, it has to be since it functions as an airbase. EAW doesn't allow to land on objects really, so this was the only way to make them landable. Basically it has a tiny patch of land underneath. The carrier was borrowed from another Microprose game and if time allows I'll try to turn it into a more suitable model. The trains option never was one of my favourites but the game needs it to be able to find the interdiction targets so I'm currently experimenting with adding it again. The main problem with this trick is that ships remain as close to eachother as the cariages which looks a bit weird but someone allready found a solution for that. VonBeerhofen
