Running out of Fuel on Escort Missions.

Recommended Posts

This has happened to me twice now. I'm not tooling around in afterburner, I'm sticking to the waypoints. ( I do hit jump to next event since nothing seems to happen during the mission).

Why doesn't the default load out include enough fuel? Is there a way too see how much fuel is needed in the mission?

Thanks.

Yes, that does seem to be a deficiency in the game.

So, I guess an external tank should be the default unless you know for sure the mission will be short.

Certainly, this guy seems to think so...

That was part of a great series, here:

Ideal for us who don't have the time to actually play the game. :)

I am currently following Commander T as well. Very good series. It does seem that there is an unwritten rule to take at least one fuel tank. Also depending on how you fly will determine how much fuel you expend. If you are flying low-level for all or most of the mission your fuel usage will go up dramatically. Flying higher lowers your fuel consumption. It does take some getting used to but studying and/or adjusting the waypoints themselves before take off can help with this. Hope this helps.

It's a bit late now. But for posterity's sake anyhow...

A useful technique, but maybe not so realistic, was to shut down one engine on long trips. Somehow a single engine at higher RPM has a lower fuelflow than both on at a lower RPM.
