I never give much thought to this, but in a moment of clarity I suddenly flashed on the fact that we've been manipulated for decades by the major players in this sorry world! Not that we can do much to change it, but I really think this is a fact. Makes me sound like one of those "End-of-the-World" nuts, but how else to explain the above post? I don't think they sit around in dark rooms with evil grins on their faces, but I can believe closed Boardrooms where the big decisions are made, especially after the Lehman Bros.debacle. Not a good idea to spend too much time thinking like this, though, otherwise I might start to think like DH!

Back in the day when men were men, and sheep looked nervous, we used to be up at 3am, report for duty at 3.20am, after eating a full breakfast AND doing forty pushups, then putting in a full days work , PLUS filling in for yer mate who was sick again, finish at 10.30 and report to yer second job, which started at 11am, and finished at 6pm, THEN go to the local Pub, win a darts game while beating the local beer-drinking champ, pack up and drive home at 11pm, make the missus a cuppa, take a shower and climb into bed for a refreshing 2hr sleep, ready to go again at 3am. Cor, you young 'uns don't know when you've got it easy!

I've just finished reading "The Final Storm" by Jeff Shaara. It's the story of the taking of Okinawa, from the viewpoint of both sides. I knew the war in the Pacific was bad, especially for the Marines, but I never, until I read this, realized how utterly awful it really was. Highly recommended read.

Thank God we're past the disgraceful actions of a few when we bought the troops back from 'Nam! Lady Liberty hid her face in shame. God bless all who serve that I may sleep soundly.
