  1. Does this offer still stand? I think it would be good to be able to send values to the viewer using some sort of API. It would help a lot trying things out while trying to understand the ssd files.

Wow, we're lucky to get any courtesy at our malls, never mind a shuttle.
  3. Not without a joke.... EDIT: Ah, I guess that was it.
  4. Due back on the 15th......but now a couple of weeks overdue. Hope he's OK.
  5. Bothered? Of course not. I LOVE that stuff! I found that site hugely entertaining, but I guess I'm destined for Hell anyway. I don't want to discuss religion here, so as the late great Irish comedian Dave Allen used to say: "May your God go with you"
  6. Interesting...but that site also hosts stuff like this: http://www.prophecynewswatch.com/2010/September18/1883.html I love the way it starts out as a serious scientific article before morphing into propaganda for one particular group of God botherers.
  7. Sounds a bit like 'Steel Beasts' which came out around 2000. It's still being developed as 'Steel Beasts Pro': http://www.steelbeasts.com/ It'll cost you $125 though... Actually, I quite admire their business model and their dongle based anti-piracy system. The fact that they are still active seems to indicate that it's a successful way of producing sims which have some longevity.

Good stuff! Regarding IPX connectivity, did you follow these instructions? http://www.dosbox.com/wiki/Connectivity

Well, here you go... https://rapidshare.com/files/1495029824/dosbox_xx.zip Just unzip these files in a new directory. Should be all you need..... Note that DosBox will look for its config file in your C:\user\...\Appdata\local\DosBox directory, and will create one there if it can't find it. I should change the code so it looks for the config file in the same directory as the .exe, but I don't have time to look at that now.

Eugene, yes I believe DosBox can be configured to tunnel IPX via TCP/IP. redfalcon, I downloaded that build but it isn't the hardware accelerated version. If you really want to try it, I can supply a build....when I get time.

Do you mean MP in EF2000?....and is the co-op feature missing in the DOS version, or is it the lack of TCP/IP causing the problem?
  12. I just hope those damaged bridges were worth the human lives lost..... Thanks for the video.

I don't have a suiable joystick with me to try this right now.....but you could create a text file (say mapper-neph.map) with the information in the link that Eugene gave. Then change the mapperfile parameter in 'dosbox_conf' to point to your new file, eg: mapperfile=mapper-neph.map

Eugene! Good to see you here! While I still check SimHQ, anything new that we find with EF2000 or TAW will be posted here. Unfortunately, nothing has changed regarding 3dFX EF2000 since we were discussing it a few months ago. All my modding time has gone on TAW, where with the appearance of Kryctij we now know a lot more about the 3D model format. Check out the epic 'TAW terrain format' thread in the 'F22 ADF/TAW' section. Any work on TAW is generally applicable to EF2000 though... I never did look into SC that much. I was getting a crash back to the DOS prompt very often when trying to use it so have put that on ice for the time being. For 3dFX, I've been using the version off the V2.0 disk. If you have 64 bit windows, you'll first need to to install it on a 32 bit machine (I hope you haven't thrown them all away) then copy the resulting directory across. Since this is DOS, we don't have to worry about any Registry rubbish. I haven't noticed any problem with running this version directly in DosBox...even though the instructions say that Windows is needed. Then, it's a case of installing DosBox. For 3dFX to work, as before, you either need the working (but slow) version or the not working very well, but fast, hardware accelerated version. The former can be got from the link I posted earlier in this thread. For the second, the link I posted appears to be dead so I'd need to supply a prebuilt version. As I said, it doesn't work any better than you saw before though. Neph, I don't know what to suggest regarding your throttle, except play around with the dosbox_conf file settings. redfalcon, What you suggest with the afterburner sounds feasible, but there's a few steps that need to be carried out first. The first one is to extract all the files from the did.dat file so that EF2000 can run without it...

Strange. My Logitech Wingman's throttle works fine. Isn't your throttle recognised by the EF2000 config program?

    3dfx EF2000

Yes, you may need to change the DosBox config settings for your joystick...then run the config program. I'm not at home right now, but my joystick settings were something like auto, false, false, true, true

    3dfx EF2000

Yes, that link seems to be dead. ..but if you couldn't download anything from that link, then you are not running the OpenGL version.....which doesn't really work anyway. I'm convinced that this is the future of EF2000 though. I did try the software rendered 3dFX version on my fastest PC, i7-2600@3.4GHz and the stutter was quite bad, especially with the external F3 view.

Well, if you'd bothered reading the whole thread , you'll have seen that redfalcon had the same issue. Change the memsize parameter in the DosBox config file, 48 seems to work: memsize=48 HF, we're talking about the DOS version of EF2000 here, so CPU throttling shouldn't be required.

Ah, a bit of a catch-22 situation. You can't use the installer in 64 bit windows, but as the installer needs windows, you can't just mount the CD in DosBox and run it from there either (unless you install Win95 in DosBox....but you don't want to go there....). The solution, since I'm assuming you have the V2.0 disk: Install the 3dFX version on a Win32 machine, then copy the resulting directory over to your Win64 machine.

    3dfx EF2000

Maybe...or maybe not. The problem is that it's the CPU doing all the work. I had too much stutter on an i7-920, but I haven't tried it on my i7-2600 yet. I'll try and have a look later. It may be possible to adjust some DosBox settings, but I haven't looked into it. What needs to happen is for the OpenGL version to be completed so that the rendering can be offloaded onto the graphics card.

Great! How do you reckon it compares to SEF2000 (despite the lack of RAF roundals)? ....now I need to check my settings. Your screenshots look a lot better than what I see.
  22. Clod isn't that bad.....and it's getting better all the time. At least you can play offline with Steam as opposed to Ubisoft games like Silent Hunter 5.

Sounds like you're running the 'official' 0.74 version of DosBox. At the moment, 3dFX is not officially supported by DosBox so you either need to compile the sources yourself or download one of the precompiled SVN builds. There are two possibilities: 1) Where the 3dFX is emulated in software. This works perfectly, but can be slow. This is available here: http://ykhwong.x-y.net/ 2) Where 3dFX is converted to OpenGL. This is very fast, but is not fully implemented yet: http://vogons.zetafleet.com/download.php?id=9037 Note that you can have many verions of DosBox installed as you want, just put them in separate folders. They can all point to the same EF2000 install. What's interesting from your screenshot is that it shows 'V2.0' which I thought was the US version. Applying the US 3dFX patch to a british tactcom install could explain why it didn't work out of the box.
