The CHRISTMAS tree should not be put up until at least after the second Sunday of Advent or preferrably until mid December. An old tradition up here (which I think came from Engalnd but is now dying out ) was to not put up the tree until Christmas eve after the kids went to bed Nice 'holiday tree' though Stans

Yeah that always drives me nuts too....but there are two sides to every story That , sir, describes what made the United States and Canada so great. The company owner taking an honest and reasonable salary and treating employees with respect. Now unfortunately there are way too many cases where huge companies have swallowed up the small businesses and faceless executives take obscene amounts of money plus obsecene bonuses and move their busineses to third world countries putting honest workers on the dole and then paying some poor little sod in Indonesia $2 a week so the shareholders can make MORE $$$$

We get Wonder Bread up here but it's baked at a local bakery ( under license I guess) ...we have never had Twinkies or Ding Dongs or that crap. Hostess Chips is a big name up here but they don't seem to have been mentioned. Are they a different company ? Also...this is not just a union issue....although this latest strike was indeed the last straw. The company has been mismanaged for years ...it seems to have been a race for teh bottom with Hostess.

Amen lest we forget. You may remember a few weeks back I told you about my friedn and WW2 vet Mr. Bartlett who had a heart attack. He was doing fine and yesterday at the regular time in he walks for choir practice at church. He is ex RN and has enough medals to stagger an ordinary man. He served in the Channel, Murmask convoys, Atlantic convoys, the med including the Sicily invasion and the Pacific. He's only about 5'4" and maybe 125 lbs but he's a ginat to me. It was so great to hear his strong clear tenor ringing out in the old hymns. God bless him and all who served .

Saw that in the news ..God Bless him and all who saved us from the abyss that was Hitler and WW2. Please also give your thoughts and prayers to a friend of mine ........(and still a pretty good tenor in our church choir)....Doug Bartlett aged 91 joined the Royal Navy in 1940. Served in mineswepers in the channel, on convoy escort to Russia and spent the last bit of the war in HMS Howe in the med. and the pacific. He had a mild heart attack last week and is in hospital doing ok.

You are quite probably right about that Stans.

Cuba has lifted travel restrictions from mst of its citizens and is easing up on the whole private property issue. Raoul is 'king' these days but I think he sees the "writing on the way" that their system can't sustain itself in isolation any longer. Cuba is a very popular tourist destination for Canadians and many other countries. Quite safe and very cheap. I'm very well aware of the history between the US and Cuba but I still find it a bit amusing that the US views them as any sort of 'threat' anymore. Any conflict would be like a lion swatting a mosquito.
