  1. When did the US forces change from the "palm forward" type of salute still used by British army to the "palm downward" type of salute. Apparently the US Army saluted "palm forward" up to the mid 19th century at least. For years the Canadian forces followed the British style with the Army saluting "palm forward" and the Navy "palm down" until the 1960s AFAIK when all teh forces were "unified" and given the same "jolly green jumper" uniforms. This is not any sort of "trivia test" and I don't know the answer...I'm just interested to know this sort of stuff ( yes ... I know I am weird )
  2. Spring rain season has begun. You can white water raft in the roadside ditches this morning That means it will start to warm up soon !.
  3. Oh God ....... I'm exactly the same as Donster........oh the humanity
  4. Very moving and a very beautiful song sung by a great choir too. A question for you US military guys. ....near the end, there is a photo of a young man saluting. He has nothing on his head. I have seen this on TV but figured it was just the media getting stuff wrong. In the British forces you do not salute without your head dress. You stand if sitting, or come to attention, but do not salute. I'm sure Canuck will correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the Canadian forces are the same. Is the custom different in the US forces ? Can you salute while bare headed ?
  5. There are always folks willing to fund terrorists. Where do you think the IRA and UDL get all their money....from North America and people whose ancestors came from Ireland years ago........this is starting to get "political" so I'll "exit stage left"

  10. To Paddles Of course I can do the accent ! I'm a native To Stans: We have figured that some of you guys were aliens for a loooong time Actual link to the CBC article: http://stjohns.cbc.ca/regional/servlet/Vie...-missile-050407 (At a secret site near Bay Bulls an elite team of the ultra secret Newfie Liberation Army is preparing a retaliatory strike against Cape Canaveral if the US insists on launching it's Titan IV. The Newfie ICBM is powered by a special two component liquid fuel composed of equal parts Screech and the juice from pickled egg jars. When combined this produces an extremely volitile and explosive gas. The rocket is expected to reach speeds far in excess of any interceptor available to the USAF. The warhead is filled with sun aged fish and seal guts and its fumes are toxic to all known life. Diplomatic talks continue )

  12. Swear to God gents that this is true. It was on our local CBC news today. The U.S. Air Force was planning to launch a Titan IV rocket from Cape Canaveral, Florida with a tragectory just SW of Nfld. Our local authorities got wind of it and realized that the debris from the launch – including a 10-tonne solid rocket booster would splash down in the middle of our offshore oil fields and drill rigs This prompted operators of the Hibernia and Terra Nova platforms to plan an evacuation of hundreds of employees, and to tow away the drill rig at the White Rose field. This would have cost MILLIONS of dollars together with the potential of an oil spill if one of the rigs were destroyed. Our government contacted the USAF and ( according to rumour ) these guys said they didn't realize there were oil rigs there ! The Hiberia platform is a 1,000,000 ( yes million) ton concrete structure that sits on the sea bed and towers over 100ft out of the water. The Terra Nova Rig is basically a huge ship ( think aircraft carrier size ) These dudes can spot a Volkswagon on the streets of Kabul with a sattelite and didn't notice a 1,000,000 ton concrete platform Anyhow.....the USAF has now postponed the launch indefinitley and is looking for another tragectory. I can hear the phone converstaion now..........some poor little bugger and the Cape picks up the phone and this Newfoundlander bellows at him..."LARD JAZUS B'Y....are ye cracked or what ??? WE GOT A FRIGGIN BIG OIL RIG OUT DERE AND YOU TWILLICKS ARE GOING TO FIRE A ROCKET AT IT ??? I'LL KICK YOUR ARSE I WILL !!! "
  13. Welcome Badger ! I would like to help but am a techno-dunce and have never played that particlular game. With luck ,one of the more literate souls will step up soon.

  15. I used to play the historic missions in LusasArts BoB over an over again. Sailor Malan vs Molders was my favourite. In AOE I got into ground attack and spent endless hours in my Tempest tearing up airfields. Do you remember that if yu lined up just right you could make a run and take out the small buildings off the taxiway parallel to teh main runway with your rockets and then blast the fuel tanks that were always at the end of the taxiway with you guns. The biggest improvement I think has not been gameplay or graphics, IMO its been the ability to use forums like this and play online.
  16. oooooo cheeky......off with their heads
  17. I had LucasArts BoB "Their Finest Hour" and went from that to "Aces Over Europe". The original REd baron was in their somewhere too. I was never much into the PTO so I never bought AOP
  18. Hawkeye too.........maybe it's a Canadian thing
  19. Morning all........ Cyclone, what are you saying ? Are you getting drafted into the army or something ?
  20. EAW will run great on that system.
