  1. I tried playing European Air War 15 years after the original release and computer graphics and especially monitors have advanced so much it was unbearable and too clunky. If somebody could do a total graphics overhaul I'm sure many veterans from the 1990s would play it again.
  2. Never mind i solved the problem
  3. Has anyone succeeded in enabling all axes in their joystick? No problems with the pitch axis or the roll axis and I can also enable the throttle which is built into the base of the joystick. However, when I try enabling the yaw axis which is the joystick twist, the aircraft starts rolling uncontrollably and it crashes.
  4. Thank you, I was able to get to the screen for the first time and do basic configuration. The joystick is now working, I just have to enable all the axes because it has a throttle and rudder twist.
  5. There is a joystick calibration screen in DOS. It says "failure" or something like that.
  6. No there is no button to calibrate the joystick. I tried to find it.
  7. Aircraft rolls out of control and crashes after installing joystick. I can't joystick, but simulation runs normal with keyboard control. Anybody knows how I can fix the joystick problem?
  8. Woo-hoo! Seem to have resolved the crashes I've been experiencing after upgrading to Window 10. Will continue testing. Game runs just fine under Windows 10 using the dgVoodoo Glide wrapper. Using the nGlide wrapper causes a crash involving the file F22.DAT I noticed various contributors have recommended changing the game executable to Windows 7 compatibility. I changed it but I doubt it makes any difference. It runs fine either way. Considering the fact that one glide wrapper works in Win 10 while the other doesn't, makes it likely the compatibility problems we have been having after upgrading to Windows 10 are with the wrapper, not F-22. nGlide could be the culprit.
  9. Yes I have seen those instructions and they are still confusing. Which choice do I make? I don't have a dual boot system and none of the instructions mention Windows 10. That tutorial obviously predates Windows 10.
  10. Yes, this is the box I have. So I guess I have the right version. Do you have a step-by-step tutorial how to install this under Windows 10?
  11. Friends, I have updated to Windows 10 by now. How do I install this under Windows 10? Second question: where do I get a full copy of EF2000 original program? I have EF-2000 V2.0 on disk so I understand this doesn't work
  12. Can somebody teach me how to play TAW in the AWACS mode so I know what I'm doing?
  13. Yes, it's X-55 with 2 separate USB controllers
  14. Thanks for the fun and the nostalgia. I think I got it all working, including installing the updates for the various utilities that wouldn't load. Visually it looks great. Only one problem: I can't get the throttle to operate. I have the Saitek X-55 stick-throttle combo. Any idea?
  15. Thanks but how do I activate the "active electronic countermeasures" mentioned in the article?
  16. Despite my EMCON dropping countermeasures at a fervent rate, enemy interceptors are still hitting me with missiles. I thought I was doing everything right. I fly at a high rate of speed perpendicular to the missile to give it the most challenging solution (by making it fly lead pursuit) and I'm also performing altitude changes hoping it will bleed off energy as it attempts to replicate my climbs and descends but it's no good. Also, I respond very quickly, as soon as the missile warning goes off, I don't wait until the last minute. It's frustrating.
  17. More observations from running the game with nGlide at 1280 x 960. 1) The framerates are fine when cruising at altitude 2) The framerates are very poor when rolling around the airfield and taking off. Am I getting those slowdowns because I still have a Pentium IV CPU but what I really need is a more modern PC with at least a double core CPU? Or are they unrelated to processing power"?
  18. I made some progress in the sense that I was able to play the game in high resolution Glide mode using the nGlide wrapper. I'm playing at just under 1280 x 1024. However, in a busy environment where there is some action the frame rates are so slow I'd say the game is unplayable or barely playable because the slow frames. However, at least I got a peek at high resolution (very nice), which is something I never achieved with dgVoodoo
  19. I'm testing the settings in dgVoodo's glide wrapper but can't get above 800 x 600 in the game (Total Air War 2.20a). I'm using the original wrapper as supplied with the game. I've checked out a number of other glide wrappers and realized they don't even have the resolution option available, which is puzzling. Nobody is going to play Janes F-15 at 640 x 480 no matter how smooth the textures. dgVoodo does have a drop down box with resolutions up to 1280 x 1024 but no matter what I pick it has no effect on the game. Am I doing something wrong? P.S. I've given up on the Direct3D mode because it causes system crashes. I suspect my video card is too modern: Pentium 4 3.4 GHz 2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM @ 400MHz 1GB Radeon 5770 Windows XP Home Edition Sound Blaster Live!
  20. I have the Saitek X-52 control system and have most of the buttons programmed by now so I need to be conservative with the button assignments. First of all, I know the airplane can launch flares/chaff under computer control but I don't know if I can trust the computer on this. If I program some joystick button for manual decoys should I have a button for chaff and a separate button for flares or should I program just 1 button to drop both chaff and flares simultaneously? What do you recommend and what's your joystick configuration?
  21. How do I know when to load drop tanks in campaign missions? Do you look at the flight distance and then guestimate the fuel consumption? Do you have any numbers you can share? I noticed the auto-ordnance feature is not very smart. The computer will load drop tanks even on a short hop of 200 miles and back.
  22. Problem solved! The culprit: advanced gaming keyboard from Microsoft. If a special gaming mode is enabled, the numpad will be disabled because the keyboard expects you to assign special macros for the keys. Reset the keyboard to the standard mode, the zoom keys work beautifully. Make a note of that guys in case another player tags along with the same issue. Thanks in advance for all replies!
  23. Many thanks to the folks from the Air Dominance Project for this wonderful mod. I played the game religiously 10 years ago and it was and still is one of the most influential sims of my experience. I'm testing TAW_220a right now and having lots of fun but a quick question...in the 1024x768 Direct3D mode, are the num pad keys disabled? In the past those num pad keys would show a very nice close up view of the radar display, the threats displays, the map, etc. This was very useful for scanning the air space around me. Also, I could click the threats with the mouse and select them for targeting. Is there any way to get those close-ups back? If not, how are you guys managing those screens because they are somewhat fuzzy in the default cockpit view. I do have TrackIR, I just haven't tested it with the game yet.
