  1. That's the trouble flying Escort and WW packages. You are sometimes totally out of control as to what the AI strike group will do. That's why I normally fly in the strike group. If you're flying a campaign, and lets say a Airfield Denial Mission comes up in the Mission Roster, click on the 'FLY' button. If the mission is shown as a WW or Escort, click the 'CANCEL' button and return to the Mission Roster screen. Now hit the 'FLY' button again and re-check what type of mission is now available. Keep cycling 'FLY'/'CANCEL' until the strike mission comes up. This way you can pick the type of mission you wish to fly: WW, Escort or Strike. The other thing: you can lock up your Lead (or any other friendly) through the Situation MFD and no need to padlock. Select A-A cannon and then go to the Sit. MFD. Slide your mouse cursor over your blue Lead icon and click on it. This put the white circle around your Lead and has him locked up. If your Attack MFD is set to LANTIRN you can visually see your Lead. Be careful not to pull the trigger, although you're unlikely to do any damage providing your A-A is set to cannon. Also in your right side of your Helmet Display you'll get full details about your Lead in text display. But maybe this is what you do anyway when you used the word padlock rather than lock up. ;)

Never really tried any of that FLY/CANCEL stuff but will look into it when i have time, thanks Wombat.

@RedFalcon: The FA-18 isn't the best for Air to Air / Escort duty.It is a good Weasel aircraft, but the Eagle C and E does a better job, with EF2000 being the king of the hill in the Air to Air department :PUse your edit button on those sorties and correct them :D

This is quite good, i normally just fly the mission as it is without changing things but will certainly look into this!, thanks Sweeper  ....one question though...will changing things affect your score?, i mean if i select all the best jets for this and that will it not deduct points for that?

  2. Nice work! :icon_salute3: Since moving into the second campaign, all I can say is the U.S. better hope we never have to take on the Ethiopians  Those guys are murdering the Allied forces by overwhelming numbers. I can load up on A2A weapons to escort a strike, but I'm usually Winchester before we even get to the target...and that's on the easy level. :( Their AI seems better at achieving their goal than the AI on my side.

Oh dear.....something to look forward to in next campaign, , thanks Spectre  , but to be fair i had an easy ride as far as SAM's were concerned, think they must of had the day off?

  3. I was flying 'Wild Weasel' with my wingy's, looking after the 'F-16' strike group, i kept padlocking the F-16 strike leader to keep tabs on his position now and then, another use for padlocking!, it seemed to help me keep him alive, as for the rest of the strike group well i'm afraid they bit the dust!.......here's who survived!, by the way i did not shoot down 22 bandits!, most of them kill's were aircraft on the ground when i decided to blitz a nearby airfield and tower to help protect the F-16's.

And hardly a SAM in sight!?.....i'm sure other uses for padlocking things will arise!?

  4. Bahh more 01:00am fun without me :( ........sounds like you all did a splendid job on the bad guys! ,....i was flying my own mission with just the A.I. wingy's!, great guys the A.I. wingy's, never late and always try their best :P , we were flying 'Wild Weasel' supporting the 'F-16' strike group, was a strange mission as in we did not come across many SAM's or if we did i certainly didn't see them?, plenty of bandits though!, too many!!. :o

  5. As well as the EU Fly-in time (Sunday 18:00 GMT), i also access TS3 on a normal working weekday now and then (Monday to Saturday) at this time too (18:00 GMT) to see if anyone is on for MP sessions,....if we all state our preferred times here it might help with co-ordinating spontaneous MP times (i.e. when you feel like it), or help with knowing when people are on TS3 or likely to be on TS3?, so you have some idea when to check who's on!, hope this helps in some way?

Here is the link to view the TS3 SimHQ server, you can use it to check who's on now!....probably nee one!?

  6. Well I usually take out the primary that is designated for me on the X, and then I move on to secondary targets that I just hunt down via visual and tagging them.Of course during the campaign, I have a slight understanding of what has a higher value and I go smashing those first and work my way down. For an example, taking out an EWR control building is more important than their dish.

I understand your thought behind that aswell!....but we had to take out everything for mission complete, so in that situation all targets are primary!, you should join the EU flyins Sweeper, you'd be a great help!

  7. When I have been lasing manually, I use the waypoint X to guide me to my target. In nearly all occassions that one is dead center on my target.

Yes i understand that....but the 'X' was on only one target, a multistorey office block!, we still had a power station and its towers, the EWR and other things for mission complete, all these had no waypoint 'X' on them

  8. Your too kind Wombat, i'm no veteran that's for sure!...and you got that EWR dish before you respawned  .....and i know what Sweeper is saying, i ordered all three wingmen once to take out 4 tanks, they completely unloaded all their air to ground on 4 tanks!!....talk about overkill!....as for been lead its certainly a big responsibility i'm not sure i enjoyed?, makes you realize just what pressure real life lead combat pilots have on their shoulders!, big respect to them!

  9. Well padlocking static targets certainly came in useful this morning....Me and the Wombatinator couldn't find the EWR comms building and dish?, but Eagle's trick worked a treat!....i was out of MK 83's, only cannon left and EWR dish still standing  ....but in comes the Wombatinator rolling in hot, puts a MK 83 straight down the middle of EWR dish!, mission complete!!....welldone Wombat. :icon_salute3:

  10. Happy New Year!!.... house full of drunks but nevermind that, so 2012 is here, the end of the Mayan calendar, live life to the full and abandon all negitive thoughts......

if your life is unfinished then only YOU is holding you back, All the best Combatsimarians! 'hic'.....my gran says always try to drink a litre of water before bed if you've been drinking to prevent a hangover......lets see if it works!

  11. The truth is, you want to face the brunt of TAW...Well the training missions isn't the best way to "battle harden" in my opinion. It is the campaigns, things that seems simple can quickly turn into a friggin nightmare.Like the "milk run" description I gave Home Fries a while ago, it was all bandit and SAM clear until my return trip, where I got damage, fuel leak, and I spent my remaining fuel climbing to have a high potential energy. While I was gliding towards my homebase, 2x fully loaded strike flights spot me, and I cannot manouver or do anything as I have no engine power and barely enough energy, my airspeed was similar to a 737's climbing speed. In short, I belly landed that Raptor with barely any systems left, and empty stores of chaff and flares...That is what the campaign can expect you to pull off, and that is on easy.

See what you mean Sweeper!!.....just done a SEAD Strike, holy crap!, must of been about 30 bad guys flying round target area!, was lucky to get home, i just hit and ran!, let the Wild Weasel's deal with them, if they survived?? :o ....and that's on easy level!!
