Local tv forecasts: Cloudy, 89F, chance of afternoon showers. And it looks like Hurricane Fred will lose strength as it very slowly departs the waters off the west coast of Africa.

Tropical Storm Depression Erika has pretty well broken up and is now a tropical disturbance as it drifts across the Florida Keys. Another tropical disturbance off the west coast of Africa has already turned into Tropical Storm Fred. Far too early to tell where Fred will go.

Tropical Storm Depression Erika continues to shift further west, now expected to pass over or very near Key West as it enters the Gulf of Mexico and regains energy to return it to tropical storm strength before coming ashore. Exactly where it makes landfall is anybody's guess, almost the entire gulf coast of Florida is in the cone of possibility.

Looks like Tropical Storm Erika is not behaving like the weather shaman predicted. She will not turn into a hurricane nor will she parallel the eastern coast of Florida, but is now expected to make landfall around the Miami-Fort Lauderdale area and track northward through the middle of Florida. Looks like it will also move very slowly across the state. And the cool air also means the air conditioners are turned off, saving me a little money!
