  1. This is somewhat unusual in publicizing an anti-terrorist event. The RCMP, CSIS and local anti-terrorist teams, prefer to work quietly and secretively and get it done before the press, and lawyers, have a chance to get involved. By the time they're done it's to late leaving the press little more to say than a 20 second sound bite, if anything. However, this is a bush-league al Qaeda wannabe so they're not giving much up by letting it be publicized. A little PR doesn't hurt I guess, in spite of the anti-terrorist groups aversion to it, and the RCMP's traditional disinterest for it (their public image to the world is purely public generated).

Back in 2003 an attempt to bomb the Ambassador bridge between Windsor (my home town) and Detroit was foiled. I saw nothing on tv news and only found a few paragraphs on page 3 of the Windsor Star. Indeed, 2003 and 2004 were very busy years for the anti-terrorist teams up here and yet very little was said by the media. I got more out of my police friends than the media.

Alas, last April, a member of the local anti-terrorist team and Windsor Police Department was shot to death when he stumbled onto a drug deal. The first ever gun killing of a cop in the 120+ year history of the WPD. That got alot of public attention, and a huge funeral, as he was something of a local hero. My sisters almost-husband, Steve, was a good friend and was quite bummed out.

I know quite a few RCMP officers and yes they are really good people and yet I've seen them beat the crap out of people (deservedly). I've even been on the wrong side of the law, just a teensey bit, and even then they were exceptionally curtious. Well, except for one officer. But then, I damned near killed him when I accidently rode him off an Alberta highway. Still, all I got was a verbal hurricane for a minute or two then stomped back into his car and drove off, leaving me rather stunned at the roadside for a few more minutes, still holding my drivers license, which he never asked for (didn't have to) or looked at. Aahhh, but I think it was his fault as he had to be going like a bat outa hell popping out from between a caravan of holiday campers and trailers and tried to pass me on my right, where I was turning back into, with more than ample turn signal warning. Just caught him on a bad day. Or was that a good day.

  2. Ya, upon rereading, it's an internal combustion engine, capable of converting to gasoline. Not new. Too much energy loss to heat and friction in an I.C.E.

I'm suspecting he's a smooth talker and able to bamboozle people with the intricacies of multi-systems reinforced with flexability, versatilty and redundancy concepts. He won't fool scientists and engineers with the first bit (unless it pays for them to be fooled), but the rest can be quite convincing.

Indeed, I took the HHO thing to be just a gimmicky way of saying H2O. May be it is just ole snake oil.

  3. Enthalpy.

And there's nohing you can do about. H2 + O2 has a higher enthalpy than water. Indeed, any gas in relation to liquid. which in turn liquid is a higher enthalpy state than solid.

Get 100 miles out of 4 oz of water. Of course you can. It all depends on how big a battery pack you want to drag along.

Hydrogen-oxygen combustion result in water + energy.

    It's just a cycle. H20 -> H2 + O2 -> H2O -> H2 + 02 -> etc etc. (I left out the energy bit)

Loss of water "fuel" will come from leakage in the system. Loss of energy due to heat and doing work is replenished by the batteries. So the range is determined by his battery pack, not the amount of water. Even if his system is exceptionally efficient, he'd still be better of going fully electrical. His 100 miles would likely be more like 125 to 150 miles if using electric motors instead.

The 4 oz of water is more of an indicator of horsepower and how fast his system recycles.

Making it a hybrid would be necessary to recharge the battery. But that just introduces another system interface and another source of energy lost.

But then again, he might be (should be) using a fuel cell electric motor system. This system runs quite cool, therefore less heat loss and, more importantly, the H2O+O2 products are at a lower temperature (read enthalpy). That's less battery (read weight). He may get a major improvement in efficiency. Maybe 90% instead of around 70%.

Might be worth keeping tabs on after all.

    No getting past enthalpy however.

  4. Oh heck, at 4.04 we have enough stuff to play with for a long time. Even Korea missions. After all, the Corsair was the back bone of sea power in that conflict any way, and the vast majority of missions were WW 2 types on both sides. VMF-124 and 73 Sqd have plenty to play with. I see no need to go any further until BoB.

And if they have the gall to produce BoB as an addon, meaning Pe-2, or whatever, will be required, well that would be just to bad I guess.

Geez they ymake it hard not to be cynical. <_<

  5. Well I was greatful that the Eastern Front was finally being represented by IL2, since it had been virtually ignored by sims. It was a rather important part of history. But now it's done with an overkill in aircraft types. I'm satiated on the subject.

Now Pe-2 lets me fly the Pe-2. Do I want to?

    No.

I don't purposely choose bombers to fly in the first place  . I strongly suspect the number of people who'll be turned on by flying the Pe-2 is rather limited.

Addons? Well, I don't think there would have been many, nay ANY more addons concerning Ami Iron or Brit Bats, but just more Eastern Front stuff and by now, the (even) more exotic stuff, even if no Pe-2 addon was planned.

So for me Pe-2 is rather pointless.

Well, ok, maybe there'd be some ground object stuff I'dd like to get my hands on but hey, I'll get over it.

  6. Good morning all.

A nice spring like 18C/65F here and a break from rain and T-storms.

A little trivia. On this day in 1952, Alberta delivers its first barrel of oil.

Well, maybe that's not so trivial eh.

  7. My bud Barry told me that Starforce may be the cause of my current woes with playing movies and severe hesitations in Pacific Fighters. I do have SH III loaded.

I was watching Serenity when half way through it would stop. I'd coax it back into playing but stoppages would re-occur. Other DVD movies that once worked flawlessly now do the same as Serenity. :(

I patched up PF to 4.04m aand now it's almost useless. After a few minutes of flying random panels start flashing in technicolour soon followed by stoppages 10 sseconds and longer, even forcing me to power off. The FMB is useless. I've always had some hesitations in the IL2 series, but not like this. I did install the proper rts file and did the core to coreP4 thing. Is there some other dll files I need?

I spent the better part of the day screwing with vid card drivers to no avail, so I put my old one back (44.53). I really hate messing with vid card drivers.

    My rig:

    P4 2.4 GHz

    1 Gb RDRam

    nVidia GF4 Ti 4600 w 128 Mb and 44.53 driver.

    Edit: Make that 45.23 driver

  8. Did it all seem to go in sloowww-moootion Jim?

    It did for me. coughtwicecough.

Happy to hear it turned out much better than it could have gone.

It does seem to take technology to save you from technology eh.
