The 16th NEW Harpoon scenario of the year! 10.0 Punch Through Soviet Blitz Against Northern Defended Sea Lane The Soviets desperately need to reduce the flow of supplies to NATO ground units fighting in Europe. With Keflavik in NATO hands, it is very difficult for the Soviets to conduct attacks against the defended sea lanes. The only way to make an impact on the re-supply effort is to attack both the escorts and the supporting bases en masse and then go after the merchants while the defenders are recovering.   4. The 15th NEW Harpoon scenario of the year! 24.4 Trade Barrier [ASEAN] [H3.6] It did not take long for the full import of the U.S. withdrawal from the Philippines to become apparent. U.S. presence declined in the South China Sea and this allowed other navies greater freedom. The PLA(Navy), under strict orders from Beijing, stepped up its patrols around the Spratley archipelago. The Vietnamese and the Philippines vigorously protested this action, but not much was done to help them. By 1998, the Chinese felt confident enough to make a determined push for the whole of the island chain. By controlling the Spratleys, the PLA(Navy) would be in position to threaten busy shipping routes; the forces assigned there would also cover the Chinese invasion of the Philippines. Once the Philippines had fallen, no one would be able to oust the Chinese from their sea. Much was carried out to ensure the smooth running of the initial stages of the operation. Vietnam was bribed into hamstringing the ASEAN response and the Philippine communist insurgency was expanded and financed by the PRC. Chinese Special Forces were clandestinely inserted to advise the guerrillas. All that was needed was a spark. Following the seizure of the USS Pueblo, two carriers with their screens were sent far north to the Sea of Japan. A contingency plan was invoked that committed the Enterprise and Ticonderoga to launch air strikes against North Korean airfields. Air Force planes in South Korea were to have coordinated with the two navy air wings, but it was still a vastly lopsided proposition. The carriers were assigned seven airfields at which were based more than two hundred MiGs. Intelligence briefings detailed the enemy order of battle: ninety-one MiG-21s, seventy-six MiG-17s, and thirty-five MiG-19s. It was estimated that at least half the North Korean fighter force would be airborne by the time the strikes arrived. Against this, we had twenty operational Phantoms and eighteen Crusaders to escort the strike birds. The fighters were spread mighty thin. One target was to be struck by ten A-4s escorted by a pair of F-8s. Nobody slept much that night. A good many farewell letters were written in expectation of the worst, though "the worst" varied from one man to another, according to his outlook. If forced down alive, the pilots knew they faced brutal captivity in a land ruled by barbarians. Economic pressures and publication of 30-year old secret documents fueled nationalism in both countries. The press was rife with "analysis" of how the retirement of Britain's carriers and Harriers would make fighting a new Falkland war impossible. Opposing views held that the ground-based radars, Typhoons, and permanent presence of 1200 infantry and SAMs (vs 60 marines in 1982) as well as the presence of Royal Navy ships would either deter or defeat invaders until reinforcements arrived by air. CTD when Database button is depressed When playing Multi-player games, scenarios will sometimes crash to the desktop when the Database button has been depressed. [Edit] With the Patch 3.9.0 release, this issue no longer results in CTD. However, it is still erroneous. SSM Altitude crash Land-based SSMs appear to crash into the surface after launch and ignore their cruise altitude. Ammo dumps emptied Ammo dumps in all ODb scenarios have been emptied of weapons for aircraft. Firing sonobuoys at subs Sonobuoys can be fired at subs through the weapons allocation window. Torpedo decoy fired at radar Torpedo decoy is an eligible weapon for firing at radar. Sonobuoys non-functional Sonobuoys deployed by Bear F non-functional. Patch duplicates AALog file Patch installation creates duplicate AALog.opt file if AALog is already enabled at time of installation procedure. (Originally reported by Freek Schepers) UGM-109 cannot be launched All UGM-109 Tomahawk TLAM in OriginalDB cannot be launched since none of the weapons has an engine / propulsion unit. Not only were CVBGs powerful naval forces, but strategic nuclear strike platforms, as well. To accomplish this goal, American carriers were relentlessly tracked from the moment they left port. In addition to using satellites, espionage, and direction-finding stations, the Soviets had one unique tactic: a "Tattletale". A Soviet destroyer or intelligence ship would follow the carrier battle group wherever it went, constantly reporting the group's position (invaluable in wartime) and recording its activities. If peace suddenly changed to war, the tattletale would give the other attacking forces up-to-the-minute target coordinates of the carrier itself. One of the newest and best NATO submarines has been ordered to enter one zone, where a Typhoon-class SSBN is probably hiding. The patrol zone is located under the Marginal Ice Zone (MIZ), in a minefield. The NATO sub is to destroy the sub and its escort, showing the Soviets that NATO is capable of beating its best in its home territory. The Marginal Ice Zone (MIZ) is an area of large ice floes covering roughly 75% of the sea surface. There is no possibility of air or surface units operating in these waters. The collision of ice chunks creates a high background noise, while their melting affects the local water salinity, which does strange things to sound beams. Additionally, the uneven underwater surface of the ice floes causes massive reverberations for active sonar.'   25. You say one thing but then immediately do the opposite. You claim that it isn't the players' job to test your scenario, then continue to put out scenarios that you do not test yourself and then encourage anyone gullible enough to try them to report problems. Problems are found (glaring ones, not spelling mistakes) and reported along with suggested corrective actions, you immediately ignore them, and ask for 'more folks to try the scenario.' That ongoing callous disregard for the time and effort of anyone willing to try your scenarios is abundantly clear throughout this thread. You have no intention of ever fixing your scenarios. You simply seek adulation, high-fives, and handjobs. Since all you want are gushing remarks, you should just say so and then simply tell us what our opinions are so that we can repeat it back to you verbatim; that's the way things are done within the little in-bred 'community' at HarpGamer so I can see why you would think the same would happen here. Luckily, this is the real world and everyone is free to their own opinion. It's pretty obvious that your testing is either superficial or totally absent. The HUD database bugs being reported aren't grammatical typos as they often prevent a player from ever completing a scenario. They are THAT serious. It isn't just the matter of encountering bugs. Everyone can accidentally release a scenario with errors. However, your conduct towards bug reports can only be described as egregious and reprehensible. Instead of just Fixing the Damn Bugs and carrying onwards, all manner of speculation and excuse is offered: i.e. "Maybe the bug is deliberate game behaviour? If a weapon doesn't work, find another that does. It will be fixed in the future." This litany of excuses is proffered instead of just Fixing the Damn Bugs, an action which is fully within your control. Hubris was mentioned earlier in this thread and it appears, once again. You feel that these messages are intended solely for your personal benefit and nothing could be further from the truth. If you care to use them to fix your scenarios, that is fine. However, their primary intent is to warn unsuspecting players of the incredible bugginess in the HUD and its scenarios. A player might start one of your scenarios, spend an hour or two planning and preparing his attack, and then run the game only to find that when his bombers arrive over the targe, his weapons will not launch! He climbs and dives desperately trying to find some way to release his ordnance all the while the AI is slaughtering him. After hours have been wasted, he ends the session in frustration. Who does he ask to explain this stuff? He might ask you, but he more likely asks me. In order to provide the best assistance possible, I need to know what he is talking about so I hold my nose and run the HUD scenarios. My greatest fear is that he might try an HUD scenario and think that all databases and scenarios are as buggy and unplayable. The only reason the HUD4 doctrine of "Run to the First Bug" was developed was because I was one of the idiots who wasted hours trying to get a scenario to perform. Facing the HUD ordeal once is enough to justify such extreme measures. Since I have not told you what want to hear, I suspect that you will follow your usual routine and throw a tantrum then claim that you have somehow been insulted before retreating back to HarpGamer so that you can speak badly about me and others. Here's some real content for you: fix your scenarios and someone might try them. You've been on every forum begging for someone to try your scenarios as if there was a 'right answer'. The only response you get is the typical handjob from the usual suspects (many of whom don't even play Harpoon!) It is funny to note that every HUD author feels the need to go around begging for someone to try their database or scenarios. You are not the first. There was Buckley, Ralf, and now you. All went begging hat-in-hand for players only to be ignored. On the other hand, no PlayersDB author has ever felt the need to beg for users. We just make our stuff work and trust that the community will recognize the difference. Over 7 million scenario downloads to date far means that we are on the right track. So, I'll say it again: make your stuff work and someone might try it. At this time: 1) None of the reported database bugs have been corrected within the HUD4 database. 2) Every HUD scenario is afflicted and none of the reported database bugs have been corrected for any of the associated scenarios.
