  1. I'll believe those new flat-tops when I see them in Portsmouth (UK) harbour. Mr McBrown (unelected Prime Minister) will call a snap election while his ratings are high and if he wins there will be another spending review and what will go? You guessed it, the carriers, Trident upgrade and the armed forces generally  A very bitter retired member of the Fleet air Arm.

  2. I have just played Harpoon3 "A Tale of Two Oceans" and lost.... Badly  Now I need some help to win! Based in Guam are 2 E3's, 4 P3's, 6 B1's and 6 KC135's. The KC135's all have a loadout of "minimal" and there does not seem to be any way to change that and when I have tried inflight re-fuelling it don't work. This means the B1's do not have the range to reach the Spratley Islands and the E3's time on station is very limited. So, plan B; move them all to Manilla. But even though both airfields are "Very Large Aircraft" they can not be landed at Manilla and return to Guam. I think the secret of winning is to enable in-flight refuelling but how? Come on all you Guru's, help a (very) simple sailor

  3. Hi there looking by your avatar your Ex RN , still serving RN myself RP 1's rate, if your after good H3 scenarios try the Colonial Wars site on the H3 site :)

Colonial Wars Database 1950-64 for Harpoon 3

PS my Dad was on Victorious in 63 as an RP as well :)

    I was in Vic '60 - '62 as a junior seaman RP3. 984 and CDS was wonderful!

See you live in Guzz. Is St Levens Gate still there? Can you still get a an oggie special with tomato ketchup?!

  4. I have lashed out, upset the ballance of payments between the UK nd USA, and bought new copies of Harpoon Classic and Harpoon 3. Where can I get new scenarios and how do I get them into the programs?

  5. Folks, I've done the same thing that Paddles did for the Combatsim folks: I've created a Frapper map for the HULL! Just go here:

    http://www.frappr.com/hull/map

You put in where you live (not the street, of course), you can put a picture with it (Frapper will thumbnail it for you), and you can include a pithy litle description. I've already put mine up, and I included a pic of myself. The reason why my hands are on my hips, is to avoid the embarrassment of you seeing me drag my knuckles :popcornsmilie:

  6. With Crusader Rabbit? Flying straight, level, unarmed, over downtown Hanoi and Haiphong, taking snapshots of the hard work your shipmates had done to the various industrial facilities? Oh, and don't forget that night trap on a pitching deck in the middle of a storm, low on fuel, and no divert field! Rabbit is crazy, but special crazy

I reall, REALLY don't think you'd want to have flown backseat in Pat's Viggie :lol3:

Boats, who would have gone aviating with Pat in a New York second! I'm as crazy as he is! :trustme:

The alternative was a Sea Vixen.........

  7. Tomcat, the HULL is a direct descendant of that same BBS. The HULL used to be called the HUG (Harpoon Users Group). I got into it back when Saul Jacobs was the moderator and list owner, and everyone had a real hot 33hz or 66hz PC, and ran a 14.4 modem. There's another old fart here named Pat O'Shea, aka RA-5C, or simply, Rabbit

    Boats, aka, Byron

I would have loved to be your passenger in that bird!

  8. Hi,

I'm also a (boring)old fart :D . Retired Chief, Royal Navy, started life as a seaman radar plotter and finished up as Meteorologist (Airologist) and oceanographer. Seemed to spend most of my time at sea throwing expendable bathy's over the side, hence the name.

Been a 'puter 'pooner since it was first published in the UK and still have the 3.5 inch discs.

Have lurked on HULL for several years and found the email digest very interesting.

    Hope to participate more here.
