Yah, saw that. I expect he was only in for 2 years, and spent most of the time writing or carving "FTN" in everything he could.

Well, Gunny, six months ago, I would have said, "Huh?". We got my grandson the game for Xmas, and we pay his monthly coin (the kid is WAY more than worth it). I watched him, and tried it out. Hooked, I am. Really cool game, lot's of depth, you get to create as many characters as you want, play when you want, just raise hell all the time. I'm in a pretty good guild, where people really help out a lot. Lots of fun, folks, lots of fun...

Someone needs to send Chuck Norris over there to kick the snot out of Stallone, and tell him to stay the hell out of Hollywood

Since the gouge is that he clipped the top of a tree, I suspect pilot error. Angels aviators have a hard deck, and I suspect the hard deck (when not over the airfield) was a good bit higher than the tree. Remember, too, that when coming out of a dive, if you don't start your pullup in time, all the smash in the world won't save you from inertia and gravity.

Let CNO we're getting JFK ready for a wee bit of SINKEX'ing. Give him a heads up, that if he provides a bit of warning and transportation to the site, about 2000 yardbirds will gladly pony up 100 bucks to see the SINKEX.

If you think that's strange, read this article and look at the latest fashions in Air Force aviators helmets:

Mornin Yall
What, no "You lazy bums, I've run five miles, did morning PT, ate breakfast, and skinned a hog with your K-bar?

Donny, I've been up for a half hour. I've made the coffee, did the morning thing in the head, got my coffee, and then come to CSim to read your idle boasting.
G'day, mate

Wait till the C-dore tells you about the "you'll be at sea more, because we're cutting out shore duty, but it will be better for your family" bullsh!t. Doug heard a couple of weeks ago on CVN-69 from an admiral. the 'Mander told me that this is really going to screw the Navy worse than the LCS (yes, waving troll bait under Dales nose, I got the goods on that little fiasco, just ask me and Charles here).
Doug is not so sure he's going to go for E-7, since it will mean four more years in the Navy, instead of two to retire.

Charles, did you ask Lex? I suspect being a Hornette driver and an O-6, that he might have more intel.

Damn good idea...needs to be done a hell of a lot more

Not that I'm a profession beer drinker or anything, really, I'm not! But if you think a beer has been shook up, simply hold the beer in one hand, and take your index finger of the other, and tap the top of the can right on the tab. Do it about six times or so, and slowly open the tab. Damn near works every time, too!
Oh, and if you're in a bar, and want to get some free beer on a bet heres one for you:
Buy a bottle of beer. Take the top off, take a small drink (yes, small, Donnie!). Then bet someone you can cut the bottom of the bottle off without touching the bottom, or using anything else to touch the bottom. Bet them at least six beers
Then you hold the beer around the neck with one hand, and with your other hand held flat, sharply smack the top of the bottle with the flat of your hand. Sends a shock wave through the beer, it hits the bottom (which is fused to the body of the bottle, bottles being really two parts) and the bottom will seperate cleanly (except for the beer which comes out!). I suggest you do this over a trash can, else the bartender will get very cross with you.
Doug, you ever see that one pulled off before?

Sorry. Didn't know Heinlein had been in the Military. Also had never heard of him before yesterday. And I still stand by my opinion, unless he has done something in the line of duty that warrants an commendation, his name shouldn't be on a ship. Gonna open a can of worms it will.
Seeings how Heinlein has lectured at the Academy, and is not a politician, and IS dead, I'd have to say that beats the hell out of the USS William J. Clinton by a mile and a half

Boats
-
Well, that explains why I had to log on again

It's fixed, no sweat

Boats

Donnie...Heinlein WAS a graduate of the Naval Academy. He DID serve in the Navy. His works WERE and ARE required reading to this day by the military. His political/military beliefs are (pardon the term...NOT) light years ahead of our corporate Navy of today. Hell, yes, he should have a destroyer named after him!

Read all four of the March to series co-written with David Weber. They're one of my favorite series in all sci-fi.

Someone like me as CO of Ashtabula:
"XO, I want one of two things to happen: either the fine young individual gets dumped outside my hatch for mast, either by his shipmates or you, or there will be NO liberty for the rest of the cruise, and when we DO get back to homeport, I'll make sure this is the cleanest, most painted ship in the fleet....are you getting the picture, XO?"
Then I'd had the job to the CMC, and tell him to make it happen, and not sweat the methods, long as it got results. That's leadership, AND discipline, and what a hard-core a$$hole like me would do.
Still slicing the raw meat thin, living or dead,
