  2. Actually, they need to ship him off to Gettysburg, and help the Park Service maintain the cemetaries there Boats
  3. People, you have to read Michael Yons' latest dispatch about his tour of duty with the Deuce Four: http://michaelyon.blogspot.com/ This newsie not only has the stones to do his reporting right next to the guys getting shot, and sharing the misery of ops in field, but he also has the respect of these warriors. This blog is a must read for anyone who want's the inside track on Iraq, and hear the straight story, good, bad or ugly. Boats

The real question, is what happens if it's true? Boats

    Over There...

WRONG! Todays troops are the best trained troops in the world. They are all volunteer, and are all doing an outstanding job. In 'Nam, troops rotated in and out of their units, which always meant that every unit down to platoon level never had a solid core of fully trained, combat trained people. In Iraq, units stay together, right up to the day they leave the country. There's a hell of a lot more of them wanting to go back and finish the job as well. There is absolutely no comparison between todays fighting men and women, and the mis-led troops of Vietnam. I'm not putting down the effort the 'Nam vets made...far from it. But the system they worked within, was hugely flawed, and could in no way match the fighting efficiency of todays Army and Marines. I have immense respect for those fine people over in Iraq and the 'stan. Just yesterday, my stepdaughter made a comment during a commercial for this sorry show, that the men and women over there are "dying for nothing". I turned my head towards her, like the barrels of a 16" naval rifle, and told her to never, EVER, say those words in my home again. You could have cut the silence with a knife, and there was NO argument. If you're trying to say that the "brass" can be stupid at times, for sure. You'll find that situation in any military organization. But the line dogs, the people at the pointy, smelly, bloody end of the stick, are the absolute best there is. Boats
  7. I love that line from Jamie Foxx: " I love this job...I thank God, for every day he gives me in the Corps"! Boats
  8. I finally got a day off (whoopee!) and watched it. What a piece of crap. Leave it to the liberals in Hollywood to ever so subtly distort the truth. I don't doubt that parts of it are portrayed accurately, but the subtle shadings are plain as day, for any discerning mind to see. If you really want to see whats going on in Iraq, I suggest you become a regular of Michael Yons blog. Yon is a journalist, who is also an ex-Marine, and attached himself to a Marine unit, and shares their fears and joys every day. http://michaelyon.blogspot.com/ Read as much of Michael Yon as you can. Go back often. And take the time to start reading the rest of the milblogs, if you want to know what the REAL people at the pointy end of the stick are thinking, and saying. Boats
  9. Why not down the coast to Long Beach? Boats
  10. China has a fast growing "middle class", who have become used to the perks of the 21st century. No longer do you see pictures of thousands of Chinese running around in Mao jackets. Now, they copy Western clothing and hair styles. China MUST keep the so-called proletariat happy, or at least satisfied, to remain in power. What is driving this booming economy, is trade with the US. They'd be the worst kind of fools to shut that door. Do they think they could snap up Taiwan, or the Spratly Islands on the cheap? Maybe. Do they think they could take on the US and walk away without a significant portion of their infrastructure destroyed? I rather doubt it. Get a map of China out, and you'll see that aircraft carriers hold at risk virtually every large or important Chinese city, with but a few exceptions. Could China hurt the US? Sure...but who would rebound faster, and who would end up a second rate country in the world? Boats...who ain't as dumb as he looks...well, almost
  11. Jeez, DH, how much drugs did you have to take, to come up with that one? Boats

  14. I think the best thing I've heard so far, is to get as many people as possible to boycott one oil company at a time. Don't matter which one, just don't buy gas from them. About a month of no income at all (or at least, worth mentioning), they'll decide to roll their prices back to get more competitive. And once the first one drops their prices, I suspect the others will get the message. Also, take a look at how much tax is added to the cost of a gallon of gas. You would not believe the crap that "road use" taxes get spent on. We got an extra .5 cents on the gallon down here, just for ONE set of road projects, and other municipal construction...and I was dumb enough to vote on it. Boats, who just paid 2.35 for regular...

    Hey JClark!!!

Well, I just turned 54, and the 25 year olds are still leery about 'fronting me, much less outworking me... I slice the raw meat thin, living or dead Boats

    Hey JClark!!!

Nope, but it's mostly related to a lack of time. I get up at 1:00, and have to "wake up", eat, make lunch and leave the house at 3:20, and don't get back home till around 4:20AM...and haven't had a day off since 6/6. And what with "whipping" a crew of 30 into shape, and work 3 different ships sometimes, I'm a tad tired and more than a bit unmotivated to do little more than the basics at home before I go to work. 19. Man, half the pickup trucks in NE Florida have official terrorist hunting permits on them. You mean you sissified Yankees don't have any? Boats
  20. No, when they're that high up the food chain, they won't want to make much of it public. Doing so, would put a bad light on the Army (or any other service for that matter). They'll let him serve the rest of his hitch at home, burning up acrued leave, but nowhere near a TV camera, or a reporter. Boats, who's sorry they removed keelhauling from the Rocks and Shoals
  21. Sounds like he didn't keep it 100 miles from the flagpole.... Boats
  22. Is what I need...I went to install my new ATI 256 meg DDR video card today, and something went south. I updated the onboard chipset drivers like the directions said, and then stuck the card in the AGP slot, like the instructions said. I booted back up, and no video! Had to turn the box off, take the card out, and boot back up. As far as I can tell, the card doesn't have a power plug on it. Anyone have a clue? Boats, who also has IL-2 Forgotten Battles Expansion pack, plus Pacific Fightes still in the shrink wrap...
  23. Shep, I don't know if I would class this one as a "cool video and song"...a lot of people died during these accidents. Boats
