  1. Okay, I'm going to risk adding my views to this debate (like I've been doing so far) on a few conditions - that we all agree that I'm just a noob kid with a big mouth who loves having an irrational say in everything, that we all agree to safely ignore whatever comes out of my keyboard, that I be spared Mike's wrathful tongue, and that nothing I say be taken seriously :D

I'll think up some more as we go along...

Yennyways, Byron, count us out from the reef-production-line, atleast for the short term. As far as I know, 2 SSNs, a carrier, and a few MiGs are the only things that're gonna happen to this navy, and not before '09-'10. When we say we're a peace-loving nation, we mean we're a bunch of lazy-ass wuss's, give us our dose of beer and cinema, and we're happy to be left alone. Just don't trash our cooking, or else there's going to be some major reefin' takin' place

    Ignore all,

    Cyc

  2. Mornin' all, monday.

    "THERE'S A WHOLE 5 DAYS TO GO!!!!!"

Yesterday was the IIT entrance exam. Exited home at 0630, with one aim- attempt atleast 10 questions in each of the 3 papers. Returned home, 1930, shivering with exhaustion. Did 27 in phy, 12 in math, 30 in chem. MumDad were kinda unhappy, 'coz even though I'd told them I wasn't gonna be able to do it over a year ago, they're my parents - hope is one thing they can never lose. Fine, so when I called them up after physics, they were thrilled, as was I - they had the news on the whole day - turned out I'd done better than most of the country. But math was too difficult - 90 minutes into the paper, my ORS (optical response sheet, for objective tests) was blank. Half an hour to go, only one way out - ANIMAL!!! Any answer that looked good, mark. Forget the negatives, a -10 atleast shows you've tried. Did 12 like that, then handed in the paper. Dreaded telling my parents about it, but it had to be done. By the time i had to write chem, i was feeling pretty down . And with all my buddies scattered in centres all over the city, there wasn't much of a cheering party available. Dejection set in before chem could, decided that since I've already screwed up my chances, i might as well go hell for leather. Did 8 questions I was sure of, and then animalled 22 more. Atleast I'll never regret not trying.

Mooning about at home after the exam wasn't helping, so on dad's orders I left for the court. Played a bit, got pissed with some MarCos' kid, caught up with 2 other guys who'd written it, and left for home with the assurance that atleast none of dad's peer's kids're gonna clear (to get in, you have to rank in the top 4500, out of 4 hundred thousand. ) Granted a day's leave by mom, going to crank up my u-boat now. I've got the Academy exam this sunday, the standard engineering exam (All India Engineering Entrance Exam, AIEEE) on 30th, a state-level engineering exam on 5th may, and one for a private college on the 24th of may. I'm writing only 4-5 coz dad wants me to drop a year and study harder. Unfortunately, there's a clause that says you can join colleges only in the year of your passing out of 12th, and in some cases the subsequent year (ie aged 16-18) And if you drop a year after school, companies dont consider you during campus-placements. So i've got 30th as my last shot. Got to start serious stuff from tomorrow.

Have a great week, y'all.

  3. Somebody said that carrier pilots were the best in the world.

And they must be or there wouldn’t be any of them left alive.

    Ernie Pyle

And just last evening a commando's son was going on about how the MarCos're the best cadre to join, while the naval pilots are just a bunch o' sim-jocks. 3 secs later he had the basketball in his face. Hate poeple who trash carrier-pilots.

  4. 0000, gonna crash soon. I've got my IIT entrance exam on sunday, although I've abs. no hopes of clearing, one could always do with a bit o' luck. Esp since 88 students compete for each seat, compared to 6 for an MIT one. I guess I wont be coming online till monday, then.

Y'all have a great weekend, see you on the 10th.

    Cyc out.

  5. The Tigers have a standard L of a coupla FFIR-derivatives (I think) and the Magic Mantra (this one might be the aam), atleast they did 4 years ago. Don't know about the avionics, though the radar was supposed to be replaced by and indigenous one soon. Dad's coursemate was the xo of the carrier, so he took me along one day to watch the planes being loaded up for a mock with the Ruskies. B)

  6. Dad did his M.Phil on China's Emerging Role As A Superpower or something about 8-9 years ago at the Staff College over here, I remember reading up some scary crap about China. Left me wondering why the Ruskies didn't just waltz in and blow the crap outta 'em when they had the chance. But hey, I was 9, kids get a lot of ideas when they're 9. In a nutshell, China's going big- very big. And very fast. And there isn't much we can do to stop them

Jane's ran an issue on Chinese missile tech 3 years ago, read worse stuff there too.

  7. Its just substitution, hydrolysis and reduction. The reagents used remain the same in most organic conversion, so although the complexity of the conversions may increase, the basic reaction remains the same. This one was an example of Rosenmund's reduction applied to any acid in general (here we did CH3COOH) derived from HCN. The compounds you muck around with may differ, but eventually there's just one way HCN reacts. So its kinda easy to remember. B)

  8. Never played 2 as the initial reports were not favorable. I'd gone the Destroyer route, which was going to be the companion to the SH2. You were going to be able to merge the two and play online with other folks as either the destroyer commander or the U-boat skipper. Neither worked well and didn't never worked together. I know Destroyer Commander was buggy as all hell. Pretty game and pretty well done as far as the graphic and visuals, but bugs that wouldn't allow you to finish missions and the like killed it for me. Plus you couldn't play it on any OS after 98. Don't know if it would work in XP. May have to pull it out and find out.

SH3, I'm told, is head and shoulders above all others in the series. I know the first thing that struck me was the water. Having spent much of my adult life on the water, I can tell you it looks and moves like the real ocean. The graphics are stunning and the game play rocks.

As for sailing range, depends on the boat. Type II will hardly get you to Scapa Flow and back to Wilhelmshaven while you can make the US coast if you use the lower engine settings in a Type IIV.

    Ya missed one, skip :P:rofl::rofl::rofl:
