  1. Hi fellas, long time. Been a little busy last few months, coz its the end of my final year of schooling. Classes finished on 28th Feb, and end of year exams (called Board Exams, coz they're conducted across the nation by the Cen Board of Sec Edn for students passin' out of 10th and 12th grades.) are going on.

It started with English on 1st, that was relatively easy, but really long. It was a race to the end, and I didn't fare too well. I had 17 marks worth of writing to do in 6 minutes (2Qs- one for 10marks, and the other for 7). There wasn't enough time to write both properly, but instead of writing just one, I decided to do a bit o' both, y'know, just give the gist. Fine, finished as the bell rang. Got home, gave rents the debrief, ran to the loo before they could get over their shock (You couldn't finish an english paper on time????) and took a half hour shower singing extra loudly.

Physics was next, and the trouble was that we had just two days b/w Eng and Phy. Instead of revising it, i did what I think was a smarter thing - 25 previous years' , 15 practice, and 2 sample papers. It worked. Although I was really tense and everything, the paper was, again, easy, and I only had trouble with this 3 mark Q that I couldn't make head or tail of. But again, it was really long. In my haste, I made a number of really stupid errors, and they're gonna cost me. Expectin' somewhere above 85pc.

Math a week later on saturday the 11th- no problemo, I thought. I'd been workin' on my calculus a lot, and the other chapters weren't too tough either. I figgered a week would be more than enough. But overconfidence set in, and so did complacency, and then some fool returned my IAF cd. The result - Friday morn, I've finished 45 missions, flown over 40 hours, and been promoted to General. Total math done - Zilch. crap, one day to go and I knew nothing. grew frantic, but managed to give everything a brief review. Fine, so I went for the exam nervous, but confident. No one expected less'n a 100 from me, and I knew it was doable. One glance at the paper proved me wrong - I'd have to settle for 97 - I didn't know a three mark sum in probability. Fine, okay, I can live with that. So I got down to solving. 2 and a half hours later, half an hour to go, I take a breather and go through what I've done. Hell! I'd just done 40 percent, and with 30 mins to go, I was in deep. Went crazy, wrote as fast as I could, but it was a losing battle. Finished with 30 marks to go.

By the time I met dad at the parking lot, he'd already met about half the class, and there was jubilation everywhere. I just couldn't tell him what I'd done. I told him i hadn't done 2-3 questions, and by the time we got home, he'd done the math, and worked out I'd get about 93. I told mom just what I'd told dad, and over lunch they chewed me to bits 'n spat me out. I deserved it, and more, but I dont know how i'm gonna face them on the 26th of may, when the results come out. Over dinner last night I told them that I'd made some careless errors, and got the bar down to 80, but how do I show them a 69? I'm in big, big trouble, and this time, there's no one else to blame. And news like that travels far, fast and wide, and within about an hour the whole family, all our friends, and the whole navy's gonna know. I wish I'd thought of all this earlier.....

And what makes it worse is that although most of the colleges here take students on the basis of their scores in the all india engineering entrance exam (AIEEE), the naval engineering college is where my dad really wants me to go, coz after the indian institutes of technology, and this cllg called bits, nec is the best in the country. But they take students on the basis of their 12th marks, and a 95 percent is minimum. So I guess that's out of the running.

I've got chem next, on friday, and informatics on the wednesday after, so if I can rake up a hundred in both, that might save some face, but what I'm really pinning my hopes on is the aieee on the 30th of april, and the bits entrance exam on the 25th of march. In between, i've got the iit entrance exam (iit-jee) on the 9th of april, and the sunday after that (16th) is the national defence academy/naval academy joint exam.

My paternal grandad is an ex-colonel, he's a decorated multiple - war veteran, and its his only dream to see me in uniform. his elder son is in the army, a brigadier from the same unit. Middle son, dad, navy. youngest child, a girl, married to dad's coursemate. Now i'm the only male child in my generation, and he's just waiting for me to pass out of the nda in fatigues. Problem: One - dad wants me to get an engineering degree from a civilian college, see the world a bit, and then either join through the graduate entry programme, or take to civvy street. Two - I'm keen on joining, but only the navy. and through the naval academy. NDA's under army administration, and trust me, the avg iq of an indian army education wing guy tends to negative. Serious. Oh yeah, and third issue -if i do join, i'm gonna be an X officer, just like dad. And dad wants me to be a techie. And all of this matters, coz I'm going to pass the exam, there's not too many ways to flunk it. its objective, with no negative marking. wierd. The thing where the good are separated from the not so good, is the ssb - services selection board. all sorts of interviews and personality tests and other crazy things. but i'll worry about that only after i dont get through anywhere else.

So, guys, pray for me, and gimme some moral support and lessons on willpower and all those other character building things that keep a chap far, far away from the evil influence of galactic civilizations 2: dread lords and star wars: empire at war (cant wait to get a system that can run them). Meanwhile, anyone knows how the ECM pod works in IAF?

  2. You asked for it, rommel.

A man is driving along a highway and sees a rabbit jump out across the middle of the road.

He swerves to avoid hitting it, but unfortunately, the rabbit jumps right in front of the car.

The driver, a sensitive man as well as an animal lover, pulls over and gets out to see what has become of the rabbit.

Much to his dismay, the rabbit is dead.

The driver feels so awful that he begins to cry..!

A beautiful blonde woman driving down the highway sees a man crying on the side of the road and pulls over.

She steps out of the car and asks the man “What's wrong.”

"I feel terrible," he explains, “I accidentally hit this rabbit and killed it."

    The blonde says, "Don't worry."

She runs to her car and pulls out a spray can.

She walks over to the limp, dead rabbit, bends down, and sprays the contents onto the rabbit.

The rabbit jumps up, waves its paw at the two of them and hops off down the road.

Ten feet away the rabbit stops, turns around and waves again, he hops down the road another 10 feet, turns and waves, hops another ten feet, turns and waves, and repeats this again and again and again, until he hops out of sight.

    The man is astonished.

He runs over to the woman and demands,

"What is in that can? What did you spray on that rabbit?"

The woman turns the can around so that the man can read the label.

    It says...

    (Are you ready for this?)

    (Are you sure?)

    (This is bad!)

    (It's definitely a Blonde Joke!)

(You know you could just click off and not read the punch line....)

    (You are so stubborn!!)

(You know you're gonna be sorry)

    (Last chance)

    (OK, here it is)

    It says,

"Hair Spray - Restores life to dead hair, adds permanent wave."

    BUWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Cold. Cold. And Cold. Didn't sleep a wink last night, gonna go down to the garage with dad in the evening and pull out some woolies. last night dropped to 18C, and the papers are going wild, coz the met dept predicted a pleasant, humid night. great.

skipped the morning session today, going for the exam at 1. I feel kinda like johnny english right now.

*He knows no fear. He knows no danger. In fact, he knows NOTHING!!!!!*

Except that in my case it'd probably read math & physics. :ph43r:

    Morning all.

  4. BRRRRR! -1 degree this morning..thats -18c for you blokes across the pond!

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Isn't that a world record or something??? And my toes are numb here with me in my denims and pullover at 25C.

The coldest i've been was when I went home up north to Chandigarh, and then we drove up to this beautiful hill station called Kasauli. It was April, which is supposed to be warm. Yeah, right, I'd just left vizag's 47C warm for kasauli's -2C hailstormed warm. I went so cold that they had to keep waking me up to check if i was dead. Really horrible. I'm definitely more of a summer guy.

  5. No bobsledding goes on there, as far as i know, but they've got a damn decent hockey team, and are usually somewhere at the top of the table. Though last season, about a 3rd of their stars retired, especially Sohail Abbas, their spearhead, so we managed to fluke a win.

Right, so we lost to Germany last night. Last i checked it was 1-0. The germans played a really fine game, it was a treat to watch. they anticipated everything we tried, and spent a good 3/4th of the game in our D. This guy named Mauler (fitting, isn't it?) or something just didn't seem to want to leave our net. Anyway, 1-0 is still better than 4-0 to spain (night before last). The indian side was so listless that even mom fell asleep in front of the tv, and thats something.

yeah, and i skipped today too :D . School's kinda boring. Now that the've stopped the 2 hr work sessions + 7 classes, and changed it to a 9 hour routine (3 hrs each math, phy and chem), i've lost interest. the teachers stick to their tracksheets, and that doesn't get me anywhere. I convinced mom&dad that school wasn't helping with 3 months to go for the exams, so i can bunk whenever i want now. Its a different thing that i'm supposed to be studying at home :ph43r: Seriously, i mean, they're doing SHM and 3rd base integrals and all that, which i find easy, but stuff which i dont get (i didn't listen much in 11th grade, and our college admission exams are based on both 11th and 12th) like almost all of physical chem (kinetics, equilibria, mechanics, and stoichio), they've just glossed over. in the work sessions, atleast i go one on one with the teachers for a few hours at my own pace, so that was fine. now, as i mentioned, its just bugging. most of the class is taking a 3-month prep leave, so i'm not alone. Its a different thing that its not allowed by both the govt (we need 60% attendance to write the exams) and the school (they're just sadists :D ).
