Stans
So how did I spend my Saturday? Searching out cool things for FS2004! I found some neat stuff at FlightSim.com, too bad they now limit the free memberships to 2 hours per day. Anyway, I downloaded some neat stuff including this. It's a Lockheed C-130 C3 Hercules. Built for the RAF, it is freeware and by far the nicest freeware C-130 I have seen. I swore I'd never fly a four engined bird, but I just could not resist. The runway at Chesterfield County, VA looks a bit smaller with a plane of this size on the runway. It is a short runway, barely over a mile in length, here I am rotating the craft. Those huge Fowler flaps provide tons of lift as I rocket into the sky. It flies much like you would anticipate, big and heavy, but the wings provide more lift than you might imagine. Dang! That is a short runway! I won't show the picture of the landing, I hope the plane is repairable. Might help too if I read the instructions. If this strikes your fancy, head over to FlightSim.com and look for "C-130 C3" by Simshed. It's free and about 22 MB. It does feature a nice virtual cockpit, the likes of which are normally seen in payware add-on aircraft.

Spectre_USA
That does look like a fun beast to toodle around in. But where's the 105mm? Or the gatling guns? Do they have a Spectre version? You just know I had to mention it. Might have to take a look, if I can remember my FlightSim.com login. It's been awhile...
Stans
Nope, it's strictly a cargo version. Besides, FS doesn't allow for gun, bombs, rockets, or any of the other things that are almost as much fun as sex.
Spectre_USA
I have heard hints that FS-X may change that. I really, really hope so. Blowing things up in the FS world would be a hoot.
Stans
If any flight sim developer has the means and resources to create the ultimate combat flight sim, it's MicroSoft. MS's flight sims handle sounds better than any other and the use of individual flight models for aircraft rather than generating everything through the game engine makes modifications and improvements easy. The downside is that it opens the sim to cheating. You can have aircraft that outperform any of their real world counterparts and are more heavily armed than any aircraft in history, so they need to come up with a way to eliminate such cheating. Spectre_USA
I would think a simple "disable weapons" thing on the server would allow the virtual airline types to do their deals, and then a standard weapons load CRC for us combatant types would work. Either way, I would love to see it implemented. The possibilities would be endless!
