The 2007 Daytona 500 is history

Even though Mark Martin did not win...again, this race was a testament to how much NASCAR respects and admires Mark. Kyle Bush, who has spun more than one opponent out of the way, was very careful to not spin Mark out, even when it was apparent that the only thing that kept Kyle from a win was Mark Martin. Even Kevin was "respectful" in the way he got around Mark, and raced him to the finish. My whole house was cheering for Mark, and sad when he came in a very close second. Like Mark said, "I didn't ask for a win...all I asked for was a chance". Everyone who raced Mark at the end did just that.

Helluva race, one of the best I've seen in years. Looks like an exciting season ahead of us...just 35 more races till the Championship :popcornsmilie:

Oh...Toyota didn't fare well. I didn't think they would. It took them a couple of years to start getting even in the truck races, it'll take them the same in Cup. And ole Juan Pablo? I bet the first thing he had to do was go change his racing suit :o:rofl: Like Darrel Waltrip said, "This ain't like F1, where you got these light little cars with a few tons of downforce gluing it to the track, and you get right next to another fellow once in a while...this is NASCAR, where the cars weigh 3400 pds, are a hair away from going airborne, and the cars six inches away from you will be there for the whole races" Juan Pablo gots him a lotta learning to do

Yep, F1 racing is a whole different animal and coming into Nextel Cup racing from F1 has got to be an eye opening, hair raising experience. F1 drivers and road course drivers often do not make it to the end of a Nextel Cup race.

Yeah they get bored with all that round and round and round and round :)

Bored right up to the moment someone shoves a bumper into their fender and pushes them out of the way or follows real close and gets their car so loose that it becomes nearly uncontrollable. Flying around an oval track at 185+ miles per hour, nearly touching all the way around, it's not as easy as they make it look.

Well over where I was there was a 180 from Boats house. Here were booing Mark (I am retiring, I am not retiring, I am retiring cause I want more time off, I am retiring to race all the time) Martin, and when Kevin came up, there was prolly 20 of us on our feet screaming, shouting and when the dude won, some girl took off her shirt and danced for us. (You got to love Biker girls, they so love to please guys)

It was a good race, sorry that Elf man took out Tony. Now we get to hear Mark cry for a few weeks on how he waited for the caution and how NASCAR robbed him of the 500 win, just as they did a Championship. (Just so you know, I am not, have not and never will be a fan of the man. I was pulling for Shrub until Happy came up and I dislike a Bush like I dislike Johnson) (Earnhardt fan)

F-1 goes in circles as well, but with a few turns along the way. I like F-1 racing as well, but it is not NASCAR. F-1 is figure skating, where Nascar is Hockey...YEAH

Shep, as much as it pains me to say it, I don't think Busch got Tony loose. Tony got REAL loose in that corner, and had to get out of it...and Busch just couldn't react in time. All he had to do, was take a bit of air off the read end of Smokes car, and that was all she wrote. All the real experts have come out real plain and said it was not Kurts fault. As for Mark, well, ya got a point there. My son-in-law was a Mark fan, till Mark pulled his in and out thing.

Still, helluva race, don't ya think? :popcornsmilie::rofl:

Well I rather enjoyed that race. I could see that Mark wasn't going to make it when he got loose just before turn 4. That little wiggle scrubbed off enough speed to cost him the race. Exciting finish though.

Not sure about that Green, White, Checkerd business though. I suppose it beats finishing a race under caution, but sitting still under red for 10 minutes can't be good for the cars. How long has that rule been in effect?

Was most impressed with young Gilliard in the 38 car. First ever 500 and he's right there with a chance to win at the end even with his little pit lane foul-up. Might go out to Fontana next weekend just to see him race at home. Dissapointed with JPM's drive but like Boats says, he's a good driver, he'll learn. At least he didn't do anything stupid, or overly aggresive, which he has been known to do.

Yeah Cheif I agree hell of a race for sure. I know ol'Elf did not crash Tony on purpose but it helps me to dislike him more..

I am with your SIL. I had no real issue with Mark until his off again, on again love affair with retirment. I know he says he stayed for Jack and Jack asked, but what of the fans who bought his good bye garb? He aint left yet. He's like a Christmas Fruit Cake that you can't get rid of.

I look forward to this wekeends events too. I love NASCAR, but get tired of the pretty boys.

Stans, I am good, too cold to ride, got to head back to work soon. Guess it was just as good so many folks came over last night, no beer left now so back to drinking/eating healthy if Mt. Dew, Vieena, ritz and Dominos is healthy..lol
