Bomb squad detonates device found in mailbox KXLY.com Staff Last updated: Friday, February 23rd, 2007 06:41:45 PM SPOKANE -- A chemical device was detonated Friday afternoon on the South Hill after a homeowner discovered it in the mailbox. The homeowner got quite a little scare when she found the device. “He opened the mailbox two bottles filled with some kind of dark liquid on it's side with wires cap to cap and my husband said we better call 911,” homeowner Vecenta Boedcher said. The Spokane Bomb Squad was called in and evacuated the neighborhood at 39th and Havana and the device was safely detonated. What's left of the chemical bomb has been taken by the Spokane Police Department for testing. Neighbors were allowed back into their homes afterward. There’s no word on who may have built the device or why they placed in the mailbox.
