No105_Archie
Maybe you guys know this but I never saw it before............ What did Lee Marvin, Bob Keeshan(Capt. Kangaroo),& Mr. Rogers have in common, before television? All were decorated US Marines ! Apparently Mr. Rogers was some sort of special ops type and had a boatload of confirmed kills in Viet Nam .....and wore long sleeve sweaters to hide his tatoos from kids. The Dude
Fred Rogers wasn't a decorated anything. Was never in the military in any capacity. Was on TV during the Vietnam war. Total urban myth. As for the others, I have no idea. Actually, I do know that Lee Marvin saw some nasty stuff in the Pacific during WWII. Not sure exact islands, but he landed on several and saw a lot of his buddies killed.
Gunny
After graduating from Rollins College in Florida with a degree in music in 1951, he immediately embarked on a broadcasting career -- a career that continued uninterrupted for nearly 50 years, even while he studied for a Bachelor of Divinity degree, eventually becoming an ordained minister in 1962. Far from hiding a secret past as a trained killer, Fred Rogers was an exemplary individual who devoted his entire adult life to educating and bettering the lives of children, and as such he deserves to be remembered. Keeshan was still in boot camp when the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, and Japan surrendered before he could take part in combat. Lee Marvin was severely wounded on Saipan. Gunny
For info, here's a list of Famous Marines. List of Famous Marines. NOTE: Don Knotts name appears on the list as does Robert Wagner. There are probably other on that list, but Knotts was not a Marine and I can't find any proof that Wagner was in the Corps.
Schatten
I know for a fact that Lee Marvin was in the Marines, he was in the same platoon as my great uncle Sergio and they kept in touch after the war even. Not like Lee showed up in West Stinkwater PA for dinner every other weekend, but they called each other from time to time in a war buddy sorta way up until Sergio died in '72 and he had dinner with Lee a couple times in NYC when they both happened to be in town. Hell of a nice guy too from what the family told me about Sergio's stories about him.
