Container ship in a storm, interesting footage of the interior of the boat showing just how much a modern ship will flex. That whole series of Youtube vids about ships in heavy seas are scary as hell! Especially the one of what looks like a Ferry with a gold star on the funnel. Now I see how they lose those Ferrys if they roll like that!
No105_Archie
Yup...it gets mighty rough out there. The flexing of the ship is a good example of why you want something that's been built be folks who know what they are doing and not some poor little hungry sod somewhere in Asia
No105_Archie
A few pics of rough weather near one of the Grand Banks oil rigs. (note that the supply vessels are maybe 150' long...to give you some idea of the size of the seas) http://news.webshots.com/photo/1129065667048565108uoOyBZ http://news.webshots.com/photo/1129064012048565108ilNVFf http://news.webshots.com/photo/1129064550048565108vKmSJQ http://news.webshots.com/photo/1129065667048565108uoOyBZ

Stag
And hundreds of years ago, men went out in those same seas in vessels which hardly warranted the title of "Ship" to seek new lands. It makes you think... ARE YOU MENTAL? LOOK AT THE WHITECAPS YOU DOZY SUICIDAL PILLOCKS!!!!
JClark
Before you noobs start shouting "no freakin' way", let me tell you from this 35 years of experience that a a ship flexing is EXACTLY RIGHT. Ships HAVE TO flex to stay afloat. If they are rigid, they will crack. Thats why it's critical to achieve the right balance and dynamic of stiffening. Too much, crack and sink, too little, break in half and sink. Boats
Stans
Flexibility is essential, I agree. It's just a bit unnerving to see it happening.
Stag
Flexing? No problem with flexing. Being repeatedly flung 50 feet into the air in wet socks, that is a bit of an issue.
