Nvidia 8800GT sure looks like a great card and a great value. More performance than a 8800GTS, slightly less than a 8800GTX, but the price pretty well nudges the 8800GTS out of the market. Is history being repeated here? Back in the day, the 6800 was replaced by the 7800 series, a great card, but ran very hot and consumed tons of watts and amps. The 7900 was introduced and had better perfomance, ran cooler, and used less power, but also had a lot of problems with reliability and durability, so the 7950 came into being. The 7950 could beat any 7800 except for the 7800GTX. Within 6 months of the arrival of the 7950GT, the 8800's arrived and with them a whole new GPU architecture and the 7950 died. So is the 8800GT answering the 8800 issues with heat and power consumption only to be made completely obsolete within 6 months by the mysterious GeForce 9 series?
