No105_Archie
I have heard all sorts of rumours about HD TV....some people say that we will all have to buy new TVs in the next year or so because our old ones won't be able to read the new HD signals. What about the guy who bought a fancy new TV only a year or two ago ? Do you guys know anything about this? My TV is 6 or 8 years old but works perfectly...I have no intent of buying a new one. Stans
And you do not have to buy a new tv. Once the switch is made to all digital broadcast you will need a converter to decode the digital signal if your tv does not have a digital tuner. If your tv cannot go higher than about channel 114, then it is not digital ready. HD is a subset of digital tv signals and you need an HDTV to see the high quality image of HD. Cable and satellite providers often reserve the bulk of their HD channels as a premium package and require a special HD decoder box. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-definiti...e_United_States

Stans
Well, here in the good old United Socialists, you can get a $40 voucher for one converter. Yep, that's right, television is now a right and is financially underwritten by the government.

Ah, but Stans, once (thanks to a LAW) all TV is in HD, how else are the little people supposed to get their daily dose of gov-approved BS (along with Bread & Circus's) unless they have a converter box? Besides, having a box will allow those little people to save up enough to buy a high priced new fangled made in China TV so that the makers can reap a huge profit, and thus finally pay off that huge lobbying bill they rang up getting that law passed in the first place.
