That's gotta be a joke. If I could see where the other end of the extension was, as in, plugged-into-an-actual-receptacle, I might believe those guys were indeed future Darwin Award recipients.

If that picture is for real, and the cord was plugged into a non-GCFI protected outlet / breaker, then heaven help them.

Nope, if that photo is real, AND if it was plugged in that way Doug, then what we have is a bunch of soon-to-be crispy critters, and heaven ain't going to be able to help them at all.

Funny thing is, the guy standing in the pool would probably survive because he's vertical and there's less voltage potential when you are standing in a pool full of electrified water. The guy sitting, however, with his legs stretched out, presents a greater voltage potential and would get a nasty shock.

The voltage potential is function of your distance from the electrical source. Since the guy standing upright is, for all practical purposes, as far away from the electrical source at his feet as he is at his er, groin, ... as a result, there's virtually no voltage difference between those two points on his body so he wouldn't feel a big shock. The guy sitting has his feet much closer to the electrical cord than his chest, so he'd have a bigger voltage difference / potential and would get a shock ... in his chest ... which means goodnight, Irene.

Oh, and I don't recognize the shape of those cord connectors...could that be a European connector? As in 240 volts? If so, double-extra crispy.
