I've been out by the garage the last couple of days trying to move a pile of snow and ice away from one corner (the ice has caused the shed door to buckle) and I noticed the oder of "dead deer" while working. Didn't think much of it until I got around the side and noticed coyote tracks in the snow leading up to the southwest side of the orchard and field. There I saw a hoof sticking up out of the snow. I know the smell, cause I've shot enough of them, and this one smelled just about like what a freshly killed deer smells like.......not any rot or anything, just that musky kind of smell. In a couple of days, now that some of the snow has melted off of it, that will change, so if you want it, I'd say now is about the right time.
