Morning. Rough afternoon yesterday. Lottie developed severe chest pain and difficulty breathing, numbness in her arms, cold sweats, loss of color in her face. (she normally gets very red cheeks when she is sick or stressed doing exercise)

So I called an ambulance. Followed it to the hospital and that is where we spent the entire afternoon into the evening. After a battery of tests, nitro glycerin, and even some morphine, it turns out that her heart is ok. It seems that her potassium levels got way to low, she was dehydrated, and that the pain was coming from her esophagus. They gave her Maalox which didn't help. Then Maalox with a topical pain killer (don't remember the name of it). After drinking that down within a few minutes her pain decreased substantially. So after a second set of blood tests checking her enzymes and potassium levels (they gave her potassium in the IV Drip with the saline solution earlier) they said she could go home. Seems the vomiting she experienced during the night caused the esophagus to become inflamed, which caused the pain.

I am just glad it wasn't her heart, or blood clots in her lungs. I felt I did the right thing, as all her symptoms sure seemed to me as a heart attack. You just never know. All the men on her dads side of the family all died (including her dad) of heart attacks. So with that history, I just had to get her to the hospital. As the ER Doctor said, "There are a lot of people that have died that thought it was foolish to call an ambulance or to get to the hospital because they thought their chest pains were just heartburn."

So only a bit of the Front Page News got posted yesterday. Sorry about that guys. After we got home, I was to damned tired to finish it up last night.

Morning.

Donnie, you did the right thing by getting her to the ER. Heart attack and dehydration share many symptoms and with a family history of heart problems, only proper testing can determine the true problem. The topical anesthetic was probably lidocaine. I've experienced chest pain as well and it is very scary. So far, my chest pains have been relieved with a might belch.

You absolutely did the right thing, Donnie.

From the heart attack early warning signs web page:

As with men, women's most common heart attack symptom is chest pain or discomfort. But women are somewhat more likely than men to experience some of the other common symptoms, particularly shortness of breath, nausea/vomiting, and back or jaw pain. If you or someone you're with has chest discomfort, especially with one or more of the other signs, don't wait longer than a few minutes (no more than 5) before calling for help. Call 9-1-1... Get to a hospital right away.

Back in the day, my father had some chest discomfort and looked a little "off". He was 69-years old, so my mother thought better not take any chances, so she called an ambulance. My father, of course, protested. The paramedics showed up, looked my dad over, and decided to take him to the hospital for further tests. On the way to the hospital, my dad went into full cardiac arrest...twice. He had to be revived with the paddles both times.

He survived only because my mother thought it was better to be safe than sorry.

So, yeah, don't second guess yourself, Donnie. And as for the news ... fuggedaboutit! Take care of Lottie, bro!

Oh, and good morning, y'all. :)

I never knew you were so smart, Donnie! Give Lottie a big hug from all the guys, OK? I think shopping is the only antidote for this kind of health problem, so I would tell her that you'd feel a lot better if she went and spent some time in her favorite store, and not to count the cost! There, don't you feel better, now?

I know she is ok because she wants to go shopping! :superscare: (HELP ME!)

Don't look in my direction, I got roped into going to a yard sale this morning. Funny thing, they didn't want to sell the yard, just some junk they had sitting on the yard.
