Stans
There also a hollow comfort in knowing that should one nation decide to send yours into nuclear annihilation, the same will happen to them. Mutually Assured Destruction, or MAD; quite the appropriate term for such a deterrent.
Schatten
Yeah but MAD doesn't work if the other guy doesn't care if he dies.
Stans
True, but at least we know he will die.
Schatten
Yeah he'll be dead, but then it doesn't really count as deterrence though does it? You can't deter someone that doesn't care.
Stans
Yeah, but he'll be dead, so I can die knowing that he who killed me is being killed. Now isn't that a comforting thought?
No105_Archie
Sorry...but it is not a comforting thought to me. What would be comforting would be to know that all the fanatics who "don't care" were dead first. So far at least the Russians and Chinese love their children too. The others can make a huge mess but up to now are not capable of world destruction

Whizkid
Can we all just agree that Man in its present form is inherently so under the control of forces that seek his/her destruction that it's a given that he/she will eliminate itself eventually, unless a higher power saves it? I thought we could!
JClark
Politics, whether it be a democracy or a communist dictatorship, is the execise of power. If you have completely destroyed your enemy's nation, and he yours, what is left to exercise power over? Nuclear war is unwinnable. Period. Dot. End of sentence. Making sure your enemy knows that were he to destroy you, you had the means to do the same to him is a sure way of making him understand that using nukes is a very bad thing. The principle of MAD does not rely upon mere vengence, it plays directly towards denying your opponent his ability to exert power, which is the ultimate end of politics. And you thought squids were stupid. Boats
Stag
The Squid has it. You don't have these things to use. You have these things to get it through the thick skull of the retard who thinks that using them is the way to victory is actually the road to hell where nobody wins. Problem is, terrorists have no such concerns. I don't doubt that if they get their hands on a bomb, terrorists will use it. Why? because they're not tied to any specific nation, but reside in all of them. On the plus side, no terrorist will be able to get their hands on enough nukes to initiate armageddon. One bomb. and that's it; there would be no place on Earth they could hide. No Nation would be insane enough to supply them As for the nation that supplied the fissile material, or any nation that thinks of doing it; go ahead, supply nukes to the lunatics that would use them. It would be the last thing they did as a recognised country. We can't kill terrorists with nukes, but we can blow the shit out of the nations which would willingly supply them.
