Onlive. Future of Gaming?

A new service called OnLive (http://www.onlive.com) is generating HUGE buzz today.

Basically, it's a device about the size of a pack of cigarettes that connects to your TV and allows you to play (via broadband streaming) all the top games (PC or console) on your TV without the need for a console.

I don't have all the details yet, but apparently it's giving Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony something to think / worry about.

The only first-hand stuff about the gameplay that I've read is on Twitter ... one guy said it was kinda pixelated at times, but no lag.

If, and that's a big IF, if this works well, it'll KILL the console business dead, dead, dead. Somehow, I just don't see that happening, but stranger things have happened. Remember Betamax?

Interesting, but what about Mods and Addons by interested partys? I wouldn't be interested if we couldn't improve it as we wish.

Betamax not catching on is simple not strange, the porn industry preferred VHS. Never underestimate the power of the porn industry, they're like the Spanish Inquisition.

At first, I thought; "Whoopie Frakkin' Doo"; a box thingmie that allows you to play games on your telly. Hellooo, I've just got my PC going through a 42" screen at more than adequate resolutions to irritate the rest of the family 'cos I'm now hogging the TV. But then I watched the vid regarding the technology. No longer any need to upgrade your PC to play the latest games? Potentially the consoles are not the only one's who have to worry. If you no longer need to upgrade your graphics systems every two years or so, maybe the PC hardware developers will need a stiff drink too.

I think I'll keep an eye on this.
