TAW 2.0 Known Issues and Bug Reports

Doesn't time fly when your trying to sort computer problems out....where's the day gone?,...anyway i've fixed the sound problem, it happens when selecting certain mods in a certain way so i'm sticking with this setup i've got now after reinstall, not been tempted to play around with mods anymore.....once you've caused the sound problem you can't get rid of it till fresh install so no more messing around with mods for me.

If you're suspicious that the mods caused the problem (unlikely, but I'll be happy to investigate), please post the mods enabled, the order of the mods, what else might have been done, and a description of the symptoms while the mods are active and after they are disabled.

No HF, I'm still getting sound anomaly from time to time, missle engine crackle?, i think its nothing to do with MODS or TAW now, as to the cause i'm stumped??,..... also think looping noise in teamspeak maybe down to antivirus updates and windows updates happening during MP, noticed that windows updates had downloaded during MP mission with Hawkx and Eagle today, which maybe causing the temp looping sound in TS3 during the downloads.

EDIT: I'm switching to anolog only mode in Realtek AC'97 sound manager as suggested by this

However if you think its any of the MODS it would be good to investigate as HF offered. With my recent problems, I have questioned inclusion of some of the MODS. I think maybe unfairly. My problem comes about by adding MODS and/or Patches with the sim running and/or the Launcher open. We don't want Patches or MODS screwing things up. Not even me, as a very poor beta tester. ;)

Redfalcon,

I seriously doubt that the mods have anything to do with this. I offered to investigate rather than making a grand pronouncement that it couldn't be the problem, but I just don't see it. Crackling sound is often either driver related, or it means that the processor is working too hard (i.e. you can hear crackling sound when the processor is near 100% utilization).

Are you using Glide? If so, which wrapper? If this manifests itself in other programs, which ones, and do you have any programs running in the background? What are your system specs?

EDIT: is the problem just when launching a missile? If so, this is a known issue with the TAW engine trying to process too many sounds at once. I wasn't thinking about this because you mentioned issues in other programs.

Hi,

i´ve just installed latest version including patch 2.20a. this thread helped a lot as someone mentioned NOT to have a DID disk in the DVD. so this problem could be solved.

but i still cannot start due to this error message:

TAW starting screen can be seen AND error message "SetEditBoxText()- unable to set the text"

i´ve tried several setup options (D3D, Glide, various screen resolutions, i gave tawmenu.exe admin rights,...) but no luck.

i already searched this forum and the web, but no success. your feedback is much appreciated. :icon_bow:

this is a really great project!!!

Flex,

That sounds like the players.lst file has an issue. Since there's no players.lst until you actually start the game and create a pilot for the first time, I need to ask if you installed TAW 2.0 over an existing copy of ADF or TAW.

TAW 2.0 needs to be a clean install in a new folder.

Also, please post the contents of your players.lst to the forums (you can open it in Notepad and copy the contents).

Mobile AMD Sempron Processor 3000+, 2GB memory(speed 1),Digital Flat Panel (1024x768)

Video Adapter : VIA/S3G UniChrome Pro IGP, AC'97 sound card--- please don't laugh!!!!

HF i had not read about this known issue!, my fault, it is as you say 'is the problem just when launching a missile? If so, this is a known issue with the TAW engine trying to process too many sounds at once.', yes that's it!, no big deal and does not spoil the game, its just that i've never noticed it before, and i think that when i select MODS that are hard on my current Flintstones system its more noticeable!, in Nostalgia mode it rarely happens but still does!, but rare....and only seems to happen when missle is launched below F22, if i spin round so launched missle is above F22 it clears up...using dgvoodoo 800x600.

Oh one more thing, in MP if i have difficulty set to MEDIUM and the host set to EASY, what happens?, will i get shot down easier!? that's my excuse for sunday gone :P

Now you can see, with a little help, how much fun a sim can be.

This is the forum to use.

We are always looking for more F-22 Total Air War 2.20 MP pilots.

BTW;

I just mailed you the DID EF2000 V2.0 disk as you requested. (Ref PM)

thx for your quick reply! i did a clean install but tried a couple of things with the players profile (restore from old game etc.). seems that this caused a problem. i deleted players.lst, started the game successfully and created a new player. nglide with 1920x1080 looks a bit streched... but i am impressed! great!!

no i am going to start the 2nd step with flightstick integration etc.

BTW thanks to Hawkx who entertained the latest version of TAW2.0

Flex,

You should be able to restore a pilot, even from the original TAW (though there are a few mismatches on which missions will appear to be complete). The Pilot utility included with TAW 2.0 should help you with that, including restoring pilots from a separate folder (though the original ADF pilots are incompatible with TAW). Had you posted the players.lst, I could have likely told you how to edit the file in the Pilot Utility in order to fix the error.

If you still have your original TAW pilot with medals and campaigns in progress, you can still make it work. Just let me know where the original files are located and I can give you a hand.

Thx Home Fries!

I´ve never finished a ADF campaign. so no need to recover any old profile.

it´s a fresh start of a new sim. sounds perfect to me...

Working my way through the first campaign and I find it somewhat frustrating that, when escorting heavies (i.e., KC-135, C-17, etc.), they seem to fly at very low airspeeds for jet aircraft. I find myself having to double-back periodically so as not to get too far out in front of them. My Raptor is throttled back to well under 80% and I'm making around 350 KIA indicated and the heavies are lolling around at maybe 250-260 KIA. Sure makes what should be a fairly evenly paced mission drag on. Using the "skip" function moves me forward to the next event, but the heavies I'm escorting are unaffected and fall even farther behind. May be that this has been brought up before, but I don't recall, so I mentioned it. Apologies if it has.

Well, those kind of missions should go in your "Skip it" folder I B Spectre.

If you are looking for points to advance there is only one route, and that is scramble missions.

On the Campaign map click the "Scramble Missions" button and advance time and take out those who shows up.

That is what racks up points in a hurry and what you have to do to get onto the goodstuff and be able to win the war.

Concur. I hate escort missions because they're either a ) boring, or b ) near impossible because you can still shoot everything out of the sky and your package will find a way to get shot down (or miss their targets if they somehow make it to the strike waypoint).

Scramble to get your score up (you can also take CAP flights where there are a lot of bad guys, then go freestyle), then when you get to level 3 you can start the strike missions. That's where winning the campaign really comes into play.

yeah i was escorting Refueller once and the mission just ended, like i'd ran out of time?....but i was still escorting the Refueller?, the reason for the mission ending was that i failed to land back at base?.....but i thought they wanted me to protect the Refueller?, not break off for home and abandon it?....eh?
