Thanks for the great mission prep, Wombat. I just laid waste some poor unsuspecting desert city. :whoa: I learned a few things from your practice mission notes. :)

Skeeter

Thanks Skeeter. I think the mission prep is just too long. Hopefully it won't put players off turning up. :( Its just the mission indicates high expectations with all the "mobile strike WP's" but there's nothing there. So if player ain't able to do the prep please don't worry. No offense to its builder, but the mission's not worth it in its current format. With editing and work it would be good. I just picked the wrong day of the campaign. Day 6, I think, has got mortars being lobbed at you during take-off. :superscare::rofl:

Just a couple of points regarding TAW2.0 game setup prior to joining MP. These "suggestions" came about after discussions between HF, Neph and myself. There was general consensus between us, and the "suggestions" are listed here for implementation by each player (client). In some instances the Lead (host) will dictate (control) the settings but it will be in line with what is shown below.

TAW2.0 Options Screen (in the game)

Set Difficulty to Easy. (Makes it fair and consistent for all).

Set G effects to off. (Stops you having headaches ....... ;))

game.cfg file (Its in your DID/F22 Total Air War folder)

Set NO_COLLISIONS_ON_GROUND=1 (Allows AI pilots, and Wombat, to taxi through you with no harm to either)

Set LAND_AT_ANY_BASE=1 (Gives you mission success if you're able to land at any base. "No Wombat ... it doesn't include the enemy bases ..." )

Eagles NVG-Fix Tool

Have it running in your task bar with "NVG Fix" activated. (Helps to see the close-up MFD's at night. Check the box in the TAW2.0 Executable Window of the Launcher to automatically launch the Tool at start up. I gather this Tool is not an option for Windows98 users).

Weather

The weather can be set from the main window of the TAW2.0 Launcher. The Host for the session will advise as to the setting prior to launching TAW2.0.

In flight MFD Freeze

The fix for this involves pausing the mission. Not an ideal option, even with just 4 player with the possibility of up to 24 MFD's involved. We'll just treat it as an avionics failure and you/we will just have live with it as is the case in the real world.

Lightly tapping it might work ......... but definitely no kicking it ........ oh shut Wombat ....

If I've got any of this wrong, Major Neph and C.E.O. Home Fries will put me right, plus any input from others would be most welcome.

For the "avionics failure", cycling the detail level (alt-D I think) sometimes clears this.

Good one. Just need to confirm alt-D ......... doesn't seem to work for me ...... change the detail level that is ......

I've been practicing my static targeting using mavericks (see here for details), and found some more "Residential Building". :whoa:

ResB1_zps8324861f.jpg

and

ResB2_zps6cca163a.jpg

These are now in addition to what Neph identified here.

EDIT: And here's another one. I think Neph and I might have called this a Factory before.

I am always in the wrong place as Neph's number 3 or 4 and, following a discussion with Neph the other night, I understand why. Its not what the AI do but its what Neph wants (as our Lead) so please be advised for future 4 x 1 Multiplay mission.

Its actually SHIFT-D, but be sure to use with caution. It can change you settings in the Option Menu, blank out your MFD's in the cockpit view, cripple your .exe depending on which .exe you use, remove your GME mods and generate a CTD. :wtf:

Me? I'm sticking with a frozen MFD and keep tapping the MFD screen in the hope it will fix itself. ;)

SHIFT-D cycles your detail settings from low, medium, high, custom (which becomes high), so if you're on custom the first SHIFT-D will set you to low detail (blank MFDs), and two more SHIFT-Ds get you back to high detail. Like I indicated, there's no difference between high and custom after the toggle, so you only need to stop there unless you're still having trouble with MFDs.

But how did it corrupt your EXE and drop your mods? That shouldn't happen at all.

This was interesting HF.

When I flew in todays fun furball....... sorry MP Mission (more about that at a later post yet to be written) ;), I was stuck with G effects ON. I never fly with G effects ON ...... I black out often enough when I stand up out of my computer chair, let alone wanting it to happen in the 'pit of a F22.

After the flight I checked in the in-game Option screen where, sure enough, it was turned ON. But then I couldn't turn it OFF. :( I then checked the game.cfg file where to my surprise the G_EFFECTS=0. :o I then went back into the in-game option screen and noted G EFFECTS still ON but also noted the DETAIL was running on HIGH. Which meant all effects were ON and couldn't be changed until I switched DETAIL to CUSTOM.

Off course you understand all of this HF as you mentioned the 4 modes of DETAIL (ie. low, medium, high and custom) in the post above.

As you say there is no way of cycling back the DETAIL=CUSTOM as it only cycles Low, medium and high and NOT custom. :(

Just another reason why I'm not going to try and unfreeze MFD's with SHIFT + D in MP missions. Besides G effects give me a headache. :P I'll just keep kicking ............... sorry ...... gentle tapping ........... the MFD screen to fix it. ;)

Well, I think I've got a semi working profile. No joy on the rudders though. It seems TAW and Warthog's virtual controller have a rudder conflict. I've been practicing the landings with rudder on the throttle. No issues there, however when in a knife fight let's just say my feet still are a moving and the plane isn't. Doh!! See ya around 6pm...... :icon_rock: What's up with the enter key not working? Wingy

Enter key at CombatSim? I think Neph had the same problem. His solution was to swap Browsers from IE to Firefox. See here.

Well ....... what a bloody day/night !!!!!!!!!! :whoa: Where to start? With a positive of course. Just look a t this:

ts3_zps68db626b.jpg

When did you last see something like take! They were beating the doors down to get in! Well ....not quite; but players just kept turning up! We must be doing something right. Now for a few disappointments:

Home Fries sent his best wishes :icon_rock: (he's our C.E.O. and out ranks the Major General, but don't tell Battie ....). Next week for you mate! Oh ..... and Battie says: "Don't forget to bring your nephew son..... need some bloody help with Wombat!" ;)

Airdog was visiting to say hi, but you're welcome to join us any Wed night 9.00pm Eastern US time.

Neph our fearless leader .... sorry Sir, couldn't join the flight because of I think, PF problems or worse .... meaning somebody else would have to Host and Lead. Wombat could be heard yelling "Don't Panic, don't panic!" while running about up-side-down in Australia......

Wingy (welcome back mate) got in the 'pit but couldn't see the rest of us and had to bailout.

So that left 4 of us all ready for take-off.

Skeeter had generously offered to act as Host and thus Lead. Thank's mate. Wombat's recovering thanks to you, although he had to go and change his underwear .....

And then there was this "new" guy called easyRhino. Christ could this bloke fly!!!!!!!!!!!! :icon_salute3: I thought this has got to be Home Fries in disguise ........... maybe Red' from the UK? What about Eagle from Sweden? Sweeper? Anyway mate ..... whoever you are, welcome; and I'm speaking for everybody here at TAW2.0 MP.

Now for the mission ....and what a bloody mission. Battie almost dropped his drink while watching Wombat avoid hangers and taxiing through the AI while trying to find the taxiway. Ye .... that's right ..... the taxiway! The grass took a huge pounding!

On a serious note: Ice and I joined as Escort, Skeeter and Easy as Strike. Not sure what Wingy joined as before he had to bailout. But I would have thought with 5 we would have filled the 4 x 1 Strike package first and then have the 5th pilot join the Escort package with three AI.

Back to the post-flight de-brief: All 4 player got airborne by what even means and we sort of joined up into huge A-A battle. It just felt over whelming! Easy had no comms from the outset and Skeeter lost his mid-way through the flight. "Type Message" proved a God send. However, we did get sorted with Wombat detouring to re-arm, re-fuel and interestingly got a repair to his unscalable Situation MFD. Strange that. The A-A battle subsided and the focus turned to A-G "T" targets. Sometime these could only be identified by an Escort and not by the Strike package, Strange again. By the time we got to WP 12 with the the last A-G "T's" we'd got it all together. I sat up at 30 000ft watching the three Strike pilot take out the last scuds. The view, the scenery, the weather just made it a perfect backdrop to the action. The 5 of us (includes the last remaining AI pilot) flew home, landed in sequence (apparently I flew ...... sorry taxied .....through Ice on landing but with no ill efects to either. Great job boys.

Forgot to say ..... when pulling up on at my refuel, rearm, repair stop; I had a pair of AI F22's landing in front and flying straight at me. Fortunately they got down before hitting me but both taxied through me. You might have heard me yelling "Don't panic, don't panic!" but more likely it was just a lot Aussie swear words .....

Its a pity we can't all met in the Mess, pull up a chair, order a drink and re-live some of our experiences.

No, TAW2,0 hasn't got the best graphics, but its makes a great game which is relatively easy to learn and fly, and lets me meet a great bunch of guys to fly with.

Really sorry Home Fries, Fittop, Neph and Wingy couldn't join us but there'll be next time ........ Take care. Wombat out.

Sounds like you guys had a great time despite the challenges. Sorry I missed it!

I don't think I'm exaggerating, but it was one of best night's I've been too. Why? There were lots of players there. Not that they all got into the air, but the potential to get into the air was huge and you felt it. Even with the final 4 (almost 5) it was good. And it was a bit of the blind leading the blind without Neph and HF. To get hosted, hooked up, airborne, back home was a huge achievement. Plus I thinks we all leaned a lot. There was no experienced body to call on. However IMHO, it wouldn't want to be like that every Wednesday. There's got to be some semblance of order sometimes ....... Battie was having a fit in the Control Tower ......

@Iceman

I've just had a huge grilling by Battie. Wanted to know where the FA18E WW's got to? There's been no sign of them since they took off. They did take off didn't they? ..... He then got on to the targets that the Escort package was supposed to take out. Shit! I forgot all about them! I told him we were low on fuel and the Strike package needed us constantly. :o Well ...... what else was I to say ...... We did occasionally see the Strike package didn't we? :( Anyway, I got Fittop to bring an extra bottle of gin into his office and he soon forgot who I was ......... ;)

@Wombat - you hit the order thing right on the money. We needed both flights to be in-synch and we were anything but. While you and I did a good job of keeping the bandits entertained it didn't seem like it contributed to the protection of the strike package.

 We just have to improve our comms between all of us. Its not easy with two groups. Must be hard with a full 8 players. Might need to talk to HF about that. Its probably not good enough to just picking up comms with the different pitches/accents in the voice. Maybe two TS3 channels, but that means each package couldn't talk to the other. Of course! The real pilots have more than one channel. We seem to have 4 but they have predetermined responses. Need to check on the "Type Message" options. I see its <5> for all and <6> for just WM.

By-the-by following our discussion today I see that <TAB> is a quick way to give your AI WM instructions on all TAW2.0 channels. eg. TAB, 3 rather than 1, 1, 3 or 2, 1, 3 etc.

Just a thought about next week's MP session in regard to which mission. We had "Raid Egypt" (8 player) down. But what about doing the same mission again that we did today? We only had 4 players when there's strong possibility we could have 7 or 8 next week. Neph and HF will be available, they could be Leads for the Escort and Strike packages and that way we'd learn how to fly it properly. We "failed" the mission today so Battie will insist it being reflown again by somebody! ;) Why not us? I'm in favor. What do others think? Go with the majority. ;)

That would be fine with me. I think we should really have people START to show up on TS3 at 8PM EST to get their kinks worked out. We have been starting our missions way later than expected. IMHO.

Thanks as always, Wombat, for the great post-mission debrief. I'm afraid that the accidental leader of this motley crew could have done a better job but, as you said, every mission is a learning experience.

I'm fine with repeating the mission.
