Total Air War v2.0 Weekly Multiplayer Fly-in (Cancelled UFN)

Hi Guys,

This one is just to say I really enjoyed myself last night (despite the late time, some glitches with firewall and my cougar config without mentioning my performance on the taxi-way ...). Again sorry about having pressed shift+q at the end, I didn't really imagine that it would log everyone out of the game session ... :(.

I must also say I am really impressed with the stability and the completeness of TAW in multi-player (I never played before in multi and I thought I saw it all with Falcon 4 AF ;) ), someone might say avionic is not exactly realistic but all the complexity of the tactical and strategical aspect of air combat is there and greatly done ... of course a mention to the great work of Homefries and all the team needs to be made, congratulations again for having brought this simulation to its next level :thumbsup: .

Cheers,

Matteo aka "FrankIlVandalo"

  • 3 weeks later...

Hi everyone;

Some questions about the multiplayer flight:

1) Lets say that we are in flight, I´m as a wingman and we have contact with the enemy. The leader gives the order to "engage". How do I know what target engage? How the leader "distribute" the targets?

2) If I have to left the session, what is the procedure to not broke the conection of everybody? Home Fries explained it to me once but I don´t remember.

This one is both to multiplayer or offline: How can I know what is the runway that I should take off? I have the clearence of airfield to take off on runway 16, but how to know what is the 16? (or any other);

Cheers;

Hi everyone;

Some questions about the multiplayer flight:

Hi Marcos Daniel,

I'll try to answer your questions in order.

question 1,

The leader gives the order to "engage" using TS.

keys 1-1-1 =s Engage enemy (All)

key m =s Engage my target.

question 2,

Leave the mission =s Shift + Q (NOT in multiplayer flight)

Home Fries correction:

If you leave the connection via Shift-Q, you take down the entire connection. If you have to leave the session, you should probably just put your plane into the ground, which will respawn you at an airbase. Then just don't take off and leave TAW running while you attend to your errands. The other solution is to kill the F22.dat process using the Windows Task Manager, but your best bet is just to leave TAW running.

question 3,

To take off on runway 16, taxi to the runway heading 160 degrees.

Don't you also sometimes say: "you take those on the left (or right)"?

Leave the mission =s Shift + Q

question 3,

Sorry (me again :blush: ) but what if there's two runways giving 4 take-off points? Does a heading of 160 degrees tell you the bearing from my location to runway 16? How do I know which taxi-way other than by going Auto Take off?

Battie Q

"Sorry (me again ) but what if there's two runways giving 4 take-off points? Does a heading of 160 degrees tell you the bearing from my location to runway 16? How do I know which taxi-way other than by going Auto Take off?"

When you lite up in your pit, Read your heading. (063 degrees). That will tell you the direction to turn to line up on the runway heading 160 degrees. (Turn left)

I use F7 and zoom out to see most of the airport. (Keypad 1 & Keypad 7). Scan around using the arrow keys. If you are the wingman use key F5 to padlock your leader. Taxi to your leader's position & follow. (Hint) Look for the wind sock.

The active runway will always be into the wind.

Since we're talking multiplayer, you need to sort your targets with your wingmen. Saying "I'll take Target 1, you take 2" doesn't work because not everybody's shoot list will be in the same order. You need to describe your targets and deconflict with your wingmen (e.g. "I'll take the 2 on the left, you can get the 2 on the right"). Sorting isn't easy; if everybody could do it, then everybody could fly fighters.

2) If I have to left the session, what is the procedure to not broke the conection of everybody? Home Fries explained it to me once but I don´t remember.

Flight lead can contact the tower and Request Takeoff time. Tower will then tell you when to expect take off. At that time, you will likely be told which runway to taxi to. In single player, you are the flight lead. In multiplayer, only the flight lead(s) can contact the tower; the option is omitted to wingmen.

Thanks guys. Nice to get all this advice. Make us newbies job a bit easier and we can be a bit more valuable. I still find it very daunting at times.

Wombat1940,

It's easyer than it looks.

Use your SA when you read your pit heading as wingman.

You can always use F5 to padlock your leader.

Look at this pix again

Guys Remember this is an 5th Generation Fighter and things have been simplified as much as possible for the pilot.

Takeoff Position should be a NON - issue in the F22 the Guys from Lockheed have simplified even this very complicated Procedure in an older Fighter Jet..

One thing you can do if you are close to your Lead and if He/She is in Autopilot Takeoff just follow him/Her..

Or if you are stranded on the other side of the field in a 2 Runway big a$$ Airbase just use your Waypoint Markers. it will take you to where you need to be no fuss no muss.. Just taxi around 12-15 and you will turn on a dime and carefully follow the WP marker..

in the F22 there is no need to figure out where do I goto Taxi as it is alrady in the Computer.. Let Betty be your Guide and follow her Lead.. ;)

I have noted this in the Wiki..

This is a Problem amongst Pilots of Both Civilian and military, especially at an Unfamiliar base/Airfield..But they invented the WP takeoff assistance in the F22 and posiinly the F35 to curb this problem. Please utilise it..

No need to hit F5 for those that like to maintain inpit ability, or if you want to do it the hard way that is fine but Just follow your lead or use the inflight WP Takeoff Markers system..

Thanks for that, but sometimes the "Lead follow approach" in a 2 x 2 mission is a bit hard to to work out which is "your lead". The other day with yourself, HF, Flycool and myself, you and HF were in the air (in about 10 sec)

before Flycool and I worked out who we were. It turn out I was the Escort lead and Flycool was my wingman. You might remember I go a bit aggitated (again :P ) seeing you and HF head off into the blue before Flycool and I even had our canopies closed. Maybe that's because you'd flown the mission before but it was (I think, can't remember :lol: ) new to me.

Yes ATC (Betty?) is useful but just another piece of information that needs to be filtered.

I also need 30 sec to set up my cockpit. Unless its a scramble mission a little time for preparation might stop me knocking down the windsock ...... ;)

The directional taxi indicator on the HUD is valuable but it can make instantaneous deveations (damn ..... where's my spell check gone .... :angry: ) which are hard to follow particularly on a 2 runway base.

Yes, I could use auto taxi as Lead, but so could I use auto take-off, landing, flying and weapon release (well ....... some of them .....) as well, but what's the point of being there?

I'm current spending some time over at F4AF and the F16 is so much harder to fly. Its great that the F22 and F35 replace many of the manual knob and switch requirements of the F16, but it still nice to feel in change and needed. Maybe that's the attraction of F4AF.

Anyway, how else can I buzz the tower if I leave Betty in charge. ;)

Edit: I hope I speak for other newbies. If not just ignore me ........... again. :lol:

Edit:Edit: maybe I've lost my Spellcheck because I've had to drop Firefox and move back to Int. Ex. :(

OK If you have a 2x2 all you need to do is check your Loadout and to see if you are the lead or two, look at the screen lower left i belive it will say lead or two..

The Autopilot takes care of the Takeoff as to make sure you takeoff at the required time and since the pilot is poking his head in the MFD['s it is nice to have that feature to do the driving whilst you setup. The Point of you being there is to do the complicated work.. ;)

the reason we took off is the we where in a DIFFERENT Flight. WE had different takeoff times.. You guys had your own Takeoff..you need to check with the tower to see what time you are to takeoff/Taxi..so you had all the time until takeoff to setup your Pit, Please do NOT get Aggitated..

Well you are in Charge your Job has been simplified to keep you more in Tune to the the WAR going on around you not to be worried about did I press the correct button.. ;)

have any more questions Wombat now is the time to ask, not when your in the pit or 5 sec b4 takeoff .. ;)
