Donster
Sunny morning. 60+ degrees again today. Lottie got some good news late yesterday. Here MRI showed no ligament damage, so at least there is no surgery in her future.

Donster
Lottie's Doc called her this morning with more info. Here is what Lottie wrote to you all and to the family and other friends... Well, well, well, folks, here’s what’s going on and what the MRI revealed: · A large pre-patellar hematoma which is a collection of blood and fluids in front of the knee cap caused by the fall; · “Severe” arthritis behind the knee cap with a “complete loss of cartilage;” · An effusion within the knee joint (she mentioned moderate to severe arthritis right before this, but I’m not sure where/how that fits in with the effusion and forgot to ask for clarification); · A large cyst behind the kneecap which is secondary to and occurs with the arthritis. Because of the fall, that cyst has broken open. Outside of this, the cyst is normally not treated and most people never know they have one. Her suggestion is to drain the fluids and inject cortisone to get me back on both feet. However, due to the large amount of fluids she’s sending me to an orthopaedist which I see this coming Monday (orthopedist is the modern spelling – but I still think of it the old way). I asked her why I never really had much trouble with the knee before and how could that be with so much stuff going on? She said they don’t really know why (continuing evolution of sports-type medicine) but some people don’t have many symptoms until something traumatizes the knee. Concrete tends to be quite traumatizing. So, status quo until I see the ortho guy next week. Did I mention that my eye infection is nearing its third full month of life? One full week on the new meds and not much progress yet. I hadn’t envisioned approaching my 50th birthday in quite this manner but maybe I’m getting it all out of the way beforehand. Or, could it be even more scary on the other side …??? Let’s not go there! “Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how did you enjoy the play?” Thanks, everyone, for your concern; the doctor said I “take a licking and keep on ticking!” Funny, she didn’t know who said that. I actually found something the doctor didn’t know! Do you know who said that and whose father he is/was? Lottie Off to pick her up from work. Tis 6:30pm. Stans
Severe arthritis and total loss of cartilage may well be the makings of knee replacement surgery.

Donster
Taking Lottie to the Ortho Doc on Monday morning. She is going to find out today if he is going to drain that knee. She is already all worried about it. She freaks at going to the dentist for anything more than a cleaning. Have to knock her out to do say a bone implant, root canal, etc. She is going to ask the family Doc for something to calm her down for the appointment, just like she does for the dentist. You would think being married to me all these years would have toughened her up a tad.
