Yesterday afternoon I was sitting at the computer, and the phone rings. The wife has gone to shop for stuff in the family car. We just gave our other car to my daughter who is having a rough time right now, so we have only one car left. "Hello"says I. "Um, Hi" says she. "I, er, just had a little accident" "Oh" says I. "How bad" "Oh,nothing much, just a minor bump, but I'm sitting in the gas station, and I need you to see if "*******" can give you a ride over here to pick me up" "Why don't you just drive home?" "Well, see, the front bumper is,like,lying,on the ground with all these wires hanging out of it, so I can't move the car, and the Police are here asking me questions and everything" "Ok, hang in there, and I'll be over as soon as possible" "How come a minor bump caused the bumper to fall off?" "Well, when I bumped this big SUV the bumper hooked under its rear wheel well, and when I tried to move the car the bumper pulled off, but it only left a little rub mark on the SUV, and the man was really nice about it, and said he hoped it wouldn't cost too much to fix" So I took the car and bumper in to an authorized Body Shop today, and to replace the bumper, one headlite, sidelite, and paint to match is going to cost $1200 plus rental car for three days. And I have a $500 deductible for collision, and that's the first accident for either of us for over twenty years of driving, so it could be worse! But I wish she hadn't tried to move the car!
