Donster
Polish President Lech Kaczynski and some of the country's highest military and civilian leaders died on Saturday when the presidential plane crashed. Very ironic that they were on a trip to take part in events to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the massacre in Katyn forest of thousands of Polish officers by Soviet secret police during the early years of WWII. Katyn Massacre Wiki Was it really an accident? Shot down maybe? Wouldn't put it past the Russians. "Last night I watched the news from Washington, The Capitol The Russians escaped while we weren't watching them, like Russians do Now we've got all this bloom, we needn't got the room And I hear the USSR will be open soon As vacation land for Lawyers In Love Lawyers In Love Oooo Shalala Oooo Oooo Shalala Oooo Oooo Shalala Oooo Shalala Lawyers In Love" From Jackson Browne's "Lawyers In Love"
The Dude
A terrible tragedy. The Polish people have had more than their share of tragedy. 3 million Polish gentiles were killed by the Nazis and Russians combined ... something that doesn't get much press, unfortunately. In addition, if I'm not mistaken, the Polish people suffered the largest percentage loss of their people of any culture during and after WWII (16-20%). For this accident to be connected indirectly to the events that took place at Katyn makes it all the more unfortunate ... to say the least. For some reason, the universe seems to want to kill the best and brightest minds from Poland.
Donster
Yes, the Poles have taken more than their fair share of grief the last few centuries.
Whizkid
The minute I saw the news report about this tragedy, I told my wife, "That's no accident. The Russians are doing what comes naturally. They never change, it's part of their heritage. See if I'm right" The next few days will tell the story.
