Saturday Wake Up Call

Just finished most of my Samstag scheisse. Removed a three year old Delta kitchen faucet, vegetable sprayer, and soap dispenser. Installed a brand new Delta faucet, the one where the head of the spigot is attached to a concealed hose, two water settings, spray and fire hose. New soap dispenser and in the former vegetable sprayer hole there is an additional faucet for the new dual filtered drinking water system. I spent far more time getting the filtered water system in than doing all the rest. Delta went really engineered this new faucet very well. Everything fit perfect and it uses a nice, thick reinforcing plate under the sink for stable mounting. :)

Also found further evidence that whatever plumber re-plumbed this house (previous owner got to experience the joys of Shell's PB pipe bursts and free re-plumbing offer) didn't know shit from Shine-ola. A few years ago I discovered that Numb Nuts the Plumber and plumbed the downstairs heating system backwards. Today, I found that he pulled the hot water line all the up through the floor, then attached a "T" fitting for the dishwasher. This means that I could position the cold water valve closer to the floor, but the hot water valve is nearly touching the bottom of the sink basin and there's no way to alter it without doing some real plumbing. I also discovered that one of the sink drain pipes had not been properly fastened and secured.

So, more things fixed today that should not have needed fixing, double filtered drinking water on tap, and a really nice faucet setup. :D

Then it was outside to engineer a squirrel guard for a bird feeder. I had an old, dome style deflector, but it did not properly fit the new pole. Some hose clamps and a synthetic plumbing nut later and it fits nicely. Shot some Valspar plastic paint onto the deflector to slick up its surface too. Ok, bring on the damned squirrels. :ph43r:

By the way, my first inclination was to shoot the tree dwelling rats. Unfortunately, the law forbids discharge of firearms, air rifles, pellet guns and such within a neighborhood and many locals (former city slickers) seem to think that sciurus carolinensis (common eastern gray squirrel is some sort of endangered species and should be protected as such. <_<
