Morning. Frickin' Blizzard conditions. 8 inches so far. 30-45MPH winds causing white out conditions, 6-10 foot snow drifts. Most highways in the state are either travel not recommended or completely closed. Snow to end around noon today. Currently 14F with -10F wind chills. -10F low temp tonight. Iowa National Guard Troops have been mobilized for Blizzard Duty to assist police in rescuing stranded motorists and and State DOT in snow removal.

I HATE SNOW.

the BIG issue in winter weather up here is not that it gets really cold or not that we get record setting snow fall...it's the wind. Folks here hardly notice a 40mph/70kph wind. What makes it rotten is a NE gale of 100+kph/70+mph with wet snow driving in off the north atlantic.

So far this year we have been really lucky...but the forecast tomorrow is looking a bit "dicey"......about -2C with 30cm of snow and winds of 90+...we shall wait and see
