Stans
They have advertised it will be out in 2005, but I am thinking it might be more like 2006. Sure hope it will be adaptable to and that someone will make the add on for a Pacific war.
Schatten
They have advertised it will be out in 2005, but I am thinking it might be more like 2006. Sure hope it will be adaptable to and that someone will make the add on for a Pacific war. Oleg already has people working on the Battle of France and Battle of Poland add-ons, they're 3rd Party-ish sorts of things with them doing the maps and plane 3D models/art, campaign structure, etc. Everything they're doing is being checked over and approved by Oleg and crew so it'll be unlike addons for CFS for example in that he'll still be doing the final flight models for all the planes and everything to do with the actual "engine". That seems like a good plan to me. Oleg also said that the Med would be the first 1C add-on for BOB. So there are definate plans to keep explanding on the BOB engine to other theatres, I imagine after the Med 1C will want to go back to the Russian Front since that's where their hearts are. But with the structure of how the addons are being done it definately looks like it could be a good thing. Since the engine will be far more complex than FB/PFs then I think some of the little niggling plane performance things will be sorted out so maybe we'll be able to use catapults and even (if the rumor is true) nightfighters with working radar. I just hope whomever is going to do the PTO gets started ASAFP so we don't wind up sucking hind mammary gland again and being the last theatre out before switching to another new engine and running up against a "no time to add in more planes" wall again. Honestly if there's someone planning on doing a PTO for BOB they should get started now so that it doesn't wind up feeling as rushed (albeit good) as PF did. Know what I mean? Stans
Yeah, I do know what you mean. The Pacific theater always seems to take the back seat to the European and Mediteranean theaters. Heck, if it wasn't for Oleg I doubt a dedicated Russian sim would have ever materialized. Schatten
Well I'm more interested in the Med than I am a straight up ETO sim, at least past the time of the Battle of Britian really. It was 2 years of bomber intercepts and escorts and not much else. Yeah there were Rhubarbs and Rodeos and what have you, but in general it was just a grind from when the big bombing campaigns started until D-Day, after that it opened up a little more but still...The Med seems a little more open and interesting to me in relation to Western Europe. But the Pacific, that was huuuuge baby, and all sorts of things going on. Airpower had the more domininat role in the PTO than any other theatre too if you think about it. The whole reason for battles like Iwo Jima, Saipan, Guadalcanal, New Guinea, etc was the taking and controlling of airbases, harbors too, but the PTO was definately an air war even moreso than in the ETO. Yeah air power was important everywhere, but in the PTO it was almost the whole reason for most of the strategic and tactical decisions, how to project it and defend against it. The PTO opened with an air raid and closed with one after all. Plus the sheer scale of it makes it important that work starts early just to get in everything that'd be needed in the air, let alone with the maps and naval assets. Spectre_USA
Agreed on the Med. A few years back, before FB, AEP or PF, while I was still modding the UbiSoft forums, there was a poll about where people wanted to see the next theatre. The Med won by a sizable margin. Why they dropped it after that I'll never know. They did seem to get a bit of it when the one desert MP map came out for FB, but a full-on scenerio would be best , IMHO...
