This is just a sample of Hawkx v3 Dam Strike play around.

If there are any third persons willing to give this a short test, please comment on whether or not you..

(1) succeeded in installing the mission,

(2) you get the IP and the strike waypoint over the Dam.

(3) if your wingmen manage to take out the dam by themselves) and if,,

(4) you get a missions complete when landing

I thought I'd give it a go.

Downloaded from Box.net and installed into TAWBC and ran. Got this:

Had a look at the in-game briefing and got this:

which looks a different mission.

My opinion? This thread should be moved and when this TAWBC beta mission has been fixed send to this forum for public release. But I've suggested that privately elsewhere before. ;)

My opinion? This thread should be moved and when its been fixed for public release bring it to this forum.

I think the public forum is the best place for this. We are covering a few basic issues about custom missions and working with the TAW:BC

Everyone should get a chance to learn from others mistakes, so we don't have hunderds of people asking the same questions because they all got stuck trying to do the same thing:

Okay so i downloaded the current v3 online, and will try to show what kind of stuff needs to be edited AFTER TAW:BC has created and finalized the mission. This can be done with the plain old txt editor, just tell it to open the .TBC files with notepad or something like that // temporarily rename the extension of the file from .TBC to .TXT

Anyhow, the first lines that will apprear tell you some crucial info already:

WORLD_TIME 09/02/1998 11:57:00
so we get the name, which is what it's going to be called in the menu - You should edit this here, as editing the file-name it's self will NOT change what the mission will be called when loaded into TAW. Furthermore, we see it's a 4 Player mission, with the players getting assigned the planes 1, 2, 3, and 4 and of nationality USA. Finally we could change the starting time of the mission by editing the WORLD_TIME mentioned here. Great now we know what we need to look for to edit the flight we will be controlling in the game: Skip a few lines to this part: we might need to edit this after TAW:BC creates the mission, so as to not have the same building showing up 4 times, if it was assigned to all 4 planes (this issue is caused by TAW:BC and is only cosmetic. This has no affect on mission complete, since all 4 objectives will be the same. Just make sure to keep the syntax correct, and don't delete anything that you actually want to have there: The red stuff should be deleted after TAW:BC creates the file, but before it gets uploaded, if you want to have a clean objectives screen.

We can also change the time that the certain flights should try to be at certain waypoints. Also don't forget to use the ATTACK_STATIC command when assigning ground targets you want taken out. You can also use the ATTACK_MOBILE command and set ground units as targets. This can be done alot easier from within TAW:BC though - drag a waypoint of 1 unit over a waypoint of another unit, and it will try to assign targets. You usually also have the option to select a box "Must be destroyed" or "Must NOT be destroyed" for units, which will add that to objectives. Oh one final thing: The briefing part: search for the term "briefing" in the TBC file and you will find:
TAWBC_BRF

<c=r>Hawkx v3 Dam Strike Briefing

<c=y>v2 mod by Eagle_Flight

<c=r>

<c=y>Mission Start Time:<c=r> 11:57:00

<c=y>Takeoff from:<c=r> Dikhil

<c=y>Land at: <c=r> Dikhil

<c=y>Your CallSign:<c=r> Wolf 11

Mission Type: Pinpoint Strike

Mission Target: </c>Take out the dam

<c=r>Your Flight Objective: </c>Destroy Ground Target

<c=y>You will be flying for: <c=r> NATO forces

<c=y>You will be flying a flight of:<c=r> 4 F22's

Edit the callsign to reflect what we learned about our mission package earlier on: Out flight will be WOLF 0 - and we will also have an escort package, 2 F-18E by the callsign of GHAALI 1.

Be creative and coordinate the mission: have escort flights back off by setting their time a few minutes behind the WW flight, and let the WW fly in first maybe to take out SAMS. But maybe have the escort flight following up close behind to take out any planes that get scrambled from enemy airfields?!

OR better yet, create and design your own battle plan and have the planes follow your command. ;)

Also @hawkx, I hope this will help you getting a version 3 up that's working: I've downloaded your v3 from box net, and it seems to be the same v3 from last time? Anyways I've mentioned quite a few pointers that should help with editing the briefing correctly, removing the extra objectives.. Just remember, do these edits AFTER you save the TBC file. Once you have done the edit, don't load it back in the 'current work' part of TAW:BC -> just load it directly to a mission slot!

OR if you do decide to load it into 'current work' to add a few more ground units or such, just remember to edit the objectives again once you finish editing it, and before you upload it.

This was ment as a short introduction, please comment on anything else you might want clarified about TAW:BC and I will try to help

Cheers!

Thanks Eagle, but in regard to Hawkx v3 Dam Strike Mission, all I'm trying to do, as asked, is this:

If there are any third persons willing to give this a short test, please comment on whether or not you.

(1) succeeded in installing the mission,

(2) you get the IP and the strike waypoint over the Dam.

(3) if your wingmen manage to take out the dam by themselves) and if,,

(4) you get a missions complete when landing

But I can't find the mission that reflects the accompanying brief shown below:

v3-1.jpg

The WP's for instance.

Yes that screenshot has been manipulated. If you look carefully I think you will notice the map isn't alligned correctly. Also the edit to the briefings (the '0' in the callsign part is a bit below the rest of the text) I think it's more of a conceptual realization of what v3 should be like?

Anyhow the v3 doesn't seem to be completed yet. Also I'm not sure, but does editing your waypoints with the in-flight waypoint editor also affect the map that gets generated afterwards? This might be an explanation.

The v2b should be good to go for now, but I hope hawkx will be able to get the version 3 running as he intends.

Picky, picky, picky!

I talked to Eagle over TS3 & asked if he wanted me to trade my v3 TBC as it stands.

It never was ready for prime time.

He suggested I post it to "Box.Net". I did,, now it's being picked apart over a few small details.

I just removed my v3 from Box.Net.

I'm working on several new TBC files that correct the errors you mention. When I get the v3 ready & tested,,

I'll be back. I need testers. Want to help?

Yes, the screen shot was manipulated, but only to show what is possible in one mission.

I added a KC135 & escorts + a few surprises to see how TAW would react.

My objective was to make up a fun mission to play with.

I can clean up the details later.

Fly it 1st and add suggestions that can make it more fun.

Eagle offers the suggestions that help & count.

Reference his suggestions above.

His v2b should be good to go for now.

HF is the master overall.

There are many ways of trading TBC files.

I will not offer my 1/2 baked files on this BB until ready for the casual MP pilots that are interested.

We do need testers.

I don't remember anyone else even trying to play with TAWBC.

Post your own MP Mission, if I'm wrong.

Just for you. An un-manipulated objective shot; "v3 # 6"

I love v3. Hence my disappointment when I couldn't find it. I've installed it in the 4th slot. I went cheat up: infinite ammo, froze the fuel and took-off and then tweaked the WP's as per v3 screenshot here: http://www.box.net/updates. There's so much to knock-over. :o Boats, tankers, AWACS, buildings, airfields, SAMs, shilkers, Z23's and of course the Dam. By-the-way my wingman did nothing to the Dam. And the SAMs seemed to ignore me and just target my wingmen. I could see the missiles going past my nose. Maybe it was the cheat that did that? But there's a twist in the tail. There's a Z23 somewhere you can't lockup or I think can't even see. I flew over him twice, clipped me the first time and took me out the second from 20 paces. I think he's buried in the sand. I had intended to post my in-flight briefing, but didn't survive. Going back tonight to sort out that Z23 ..... stay tuned. v3 is a great mission. One of the best.

Signing out: Wombat the rogue pilot.

How can you test with cheats up?

Thanks for your interest anyway.

I can trade you my latest version? v3 #7,,

If you ever answer on ICQ.

BTW;

You say;

There's a Z23 somewhere you can't lockup

It's not uncommon to forget to change your free laze to slaved in order to lock up standard targets.

I just ran ver 7, no cheats.

All targets hit. Mission Success.

Fun to protect the tanker as an escort.

Watch tanker takeoff on "Smart View".

v37.jpg

You must keep your wingies tight when you turn IP.

You must take out G2A threats in their way.

Take out A2A threats or they will go defensive before they go for the IP dam.

I just removed my v3 from Box.Net.

Again sry to 'pick apart' your work. I thought it would be beneficial to everyone to see how a mission would look like after creating it with TAW:BC. Also remarking what would still be needed to make it tidier and cleaner. These points I mentioned could frustrate many users browsing the forums, who arn't actually active members. I said 'hundreds' in a figurative way, since we can't know how many users might have tried the TAW:BC and failed miserably (like I once did.) I see the badge with 7500 downloads so far, I'm sure there are more people out there who tried the BC and didn't get as far as they wanted - So this should encourage people and show that it is possible to get a mission fixed and cleaned up pretty easily (in my honest oppinion.)

It wasn't my intention to get you to remove the v3 either. I think having a work in progress up and available to the public is also a great way of showing the forum is alive and kickin' but also a great way to share information. Recieving suggestions, and letting people have insight in your work are things I find useful when working on a project - even if its not ready for prime time yet. If anybody wanted to figure out something concerning custom missions or the .TBC editing project, they will post a comment or suggestion. I doubt you will get any 'hate' responses, and if you do, the mods will deal with that accordingly.

The few small details I mentioned, I would assume any creator of a mission would want them fixed and corrected.

I just wanted to give the means to do so, incase the idea of editing the .TBC in the text editor seemed a bit to scary and confusing. It's actually very easy.

Alrighty, take it easy

Eagle, I'm chill'en.

It's just me & you Pal, with Wombat doing his best to help.

Worry over the briefing is the last thing to fix. (IMHO)

I don't agree about filling up Box.Net with version after version of a work in progress.

I'm on v3#7. I want to make my KC135 available for "In-air" refueling.

Great fun to watch. I want to go on a hunt for trouble around "Obock" without landing at Dikhil. Too easy!

I tried to escort the tanker just to see if he was threatened on his WP's. I had to protect him or he's a goner.

My real prob is: I could never call him up for refuel?

Maybe all I need to do is change his WP's?

Maybe you can take a look at my v3#7. OK,, I'll post my V3#7 on Box.Net.

http://www.box.net/shared/smju9z5rgp

I hope it just doesn't confuses pilot testers. Hell, I'm get'en confused also.

Forget v3#7 at Box.Net.

http://www.box.net/shared/smju9z5rgp

I will replaced it with New version,,V3#9

http://www.box.net/shared/ukjcllq6dq

I'm on v3#9,, with help get ready for v3#10

I tried to have my tanker & escorts takeoff 1st by setting the clock forward. (In the TBC text)

No luck.

Watch the tanker line up using F12

I set the escort WPs to match the KC135.

I tracked the tanker but left to save my guys.

The escorts did not save the KC135 anyway.

I want to make my KC135 available for "In-air" refueling.

No luck.

Great fun to watch.

I wanted to go on a hunt for trouble around "Obock" without landing at Dikhil.

Too easy! So I took my guys to Obock 1st.

I then set my WP to # 2 & kept my guys tight.

I took out all the G2A threats.

My # 2 took out the dam.

The Tanker was nowhere to be found.

He/she would not give me fuel anyway.

Oh well,, "Mission Success", but I need help with the above.

If you go straight from take-off to locate him, he shows himself. You could lock him up and take him out simply with a Maverick. He's right next to that SAM which I knocked out. The 3 wingman (AI) and myself buzzed him, drawing his fire, hoping he'd run out of ammo. Just wanted to get close, very close, to check the colour of his socks. He didn't run out. :( He used heaps of ammo. Got my 3 wingy's first then me. Funny that he becomes so well hidden if you arrive later. Good luck to him ...... he's real of course .....but I'll get him. Hope he hasn't got any kids. :( O' what it is to have a bit of imagination. ;)

Do ZSU's have infinate ammo?

Edit: You were right Eagle: the 'auto cycle targets' [c] for A to A does prioritize threats by their threat potential to you. Not sure how many parameters it considers because there's a few: distance, weaponry, angles, aspect, speed, they endless. And then there's A - G. weapons

Play what version you wish.

Please don't pass your "Hawk's Dam Strike v3.TBC" version around. It was a work in progress.

I'm now working on an In-Air refueling mission.

It includes an AWACS & KC135.

In TAW ZSU's have infinate ammo.

They can't reach you over 11,000 ft.

Easy to jinks,, their radar aims lead.

Just don't fly low & straight. Ref; TAW Demo #2

Every version but V3#12 is off Box.Net.

You might be missing somthing?

The SHILKAs will not move. it depends if you follow the Way Points.

If you come in backwards,, they can hide if you are low. Clime to 10,000 ft or more.

They can't hide. Lower & you are dead with no SA. :popcornsmilie:
