Donster
I am using cable now, but the price is getting out of hand. $55 per month vs $29 is a big differance.
Buster
I use Yahoo DSL Donnie. I have had my share of problems but nothing out of the ordainary. From what I understand, AOL recently bought Yahoo DSL and we all know what a mess AOL is if you game plus it will completely take over your pc if you let it. I don't use the Yahoo software that came with the installation kit. I hook up through a router so I am connected 24/7. Their software requires you to log on and off every time you boot up. They also have a few different versions of bandwidth. You can pay like 26.95 a month for up to 1.5mb download speed or 36.95 for up to 3.0mb. Considering that the cable company here gets 60.00 a month for 1.5mb speed, it is my only option. I typically get 1.2 mb. I upgraded to the 36.95 plan but the best I could get was 2.1 mb so I went back to the cheaper plan. I have done alot of hosting for the squad and have had pretty good luck if I remember to turn off my virus protection first. I guess this was more info than you were looking for eh? DSL service is getting more and more popular . Used to be that you had to be within a certain distance of a transfer station to recieve DSL. Seems like almost everyone can get DSL service now. Your speed might not be as good though the farther away you are. I probably deliver 10 to 20 DSL installation kits a week in the little town I work in so they must be doing a heck of a business. Gunny
I go through the phone company and they just tack it on the bill every month. I've had zero problems on account of the phone company. Any connection problems I've ever had can be traced back to Mr. Gates.
Donster
In order for me to make the change I would need to switch phone companies. The one I have doesn't offer DSL. Would have to switch to QWest. I don't know yet of any other options. But will do some more checking. Damn cable companies keep raising the rates. Tie my cable internet with my tv, the bill is $105 a month!
Buster
Better ck with the phone company first and make sure it is available in your area Donnie. Or better yet.......... ck with neighbors and see what kind of speed they get. As I stated before, I get about 1.2 mb but my Mom only gets about 365kb with the same service because she lives about 10 miles further out. cobraj
Donnie I have Verizon DSL running over phone cables and terminals that probably date back to Thomas Edison and it runs on line fine. As a matter of fact I have the best or second best ping rate during yesterday's flying...
