Stans
And I have not been immune. I went to church, came home, decided to check messages. So I push the button to fire up the old computer and the power supply clicks on, fans come on, the a loud "pop" was heard. It sounded like somebody discharged a pellet rifle under my desk. The monitor remained black, the power light on the case went out, the hard drive light just stayed on constant. Then there was the unmistakable odor of burning electronics! Killed the power at the power strip, unhooked all the cables, opened the case and what a foul odor! Removed the power supply and it just stank! It was a no-name brand, 240 watt unit that has been in daily service for about 5 years. So I ended up at Best Buy and picked up an Antec 350 watt power supply. I installed it, put the case back together, hooked up all the cables, turned on the power and held my breath. Well, looks like everything works.
