Stans
The U.S. Army has retired the last of their Bell UH-1 Iroquois helicopters, better known as Huey's. So long, Huey. http://www.military.com/daily-news/2012/08/22/vets-join-aviators-for-hueys-final-lift.html?comp=7000023468004&rank=
Donster
Bell built a hell of a flying machine with the Huey. She saved a lot of men, and brought the wounded and KIA's back to the firebases. Thanks to all that built them over a period of thirty years. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BfALzr5l-Q
Stans
Yep, and the USMC is still using the Huey, even as a CAS helicopter.
sonoii
Iconic, dependable, reliable, tough, a workhorse, an air cavalryman's steed. Indeed.
cobraj
Will always love the Huey, have a memory I will never forget. I was about 9 years old in 1969 and staying at my uncles farm in South alabama not too far away from a helicopter training area, I would see hueys off in the distance flying around . One morning my cousin and I were walking along the road from my uncle's farm and all of a sudden we could hear the "wop wop wop wop" of a huey helicopter off in the distance getting closer and closer till we could see it just behind us coming straight up the road. It came barreling down and buzzed us about 25 feet over our heads almost knocking us over! Being kids we were jumping up and down thinking that was so cool! THe one image in my mind of that time was when the huey buzzed us he zoomed up in the tightest turn I have ever seen one of those do and as it looped around, the door gunner who had a bright red scarf flashed us the peace sign as they zoomed away! Stans
I grew up hearing the Huey's of the Virginia Army National Guard flying around. Yes, very distinctive rotor sound.
