No105_Archie
Don't know if you folks commemorate this or not. But around here this is Battle of the Atlantic Sunday. There is a parade and a wreath laying ceremony just outside the harbour. Halifax and St John's were major staging points for convoys during WW II. The old Naval Officers' Club, "The Crows Nest" even has the periscope from a U boat that managed to sneak into teh harbour and take pictures. It later surrendered at wars end. Cheers all and S! to those brave mariners

Stag
S! No Archie, that's not one that we celebrate over here, but all things considered, we bloody well should!
Stans
An often overlooked part of WW II history. Even WW I history!

Joker
Big part of WWII, too often forgotten. If we hadn't won the Battle of the Atlantic, we couldn't have won the war. And it was a close fight, in the early days. Reading a good book about a convoy battle that took place on 16 March 1943, called Convoy, by Martin Middlebrook. S! Schatten
When I was in NYC last month we were down by Battery Park and I saw the Battle of the Atlantic memorial that they had there, at first I didn't know what it was because it's sorta set back from the walk along the Battery but I knew it was some sort of war memorial, it had the names of the dead in the Battle from all the US services, it was a very big memorial...there were a lot of names.
