Old Guy
The iconic photograph of Eisenhower speaking to paratroopers just prior to the invasion is one of my favorite historical images. When I was a boy most of the adult males of my acquaintance were WW2 veterans, including both my uncles, my father and stepfather. A family friend went ashore in the second wave at Omaha Beach. Another local man assaulted Omaha with part of the 2nd Rangers. He was later to become an Army helicopter pilot and was killed in Vietnam in 1964. I know the meaning behind today's date. Whizkid
God bless them, indeed. I couldn't believe that the local Democratic newspaper never even mentioned it today!
Stans
That's just it, Whiz. The media no longer remembers such things and it is generally no longer taught in public schools. Our history is being forgotten.
