Morning y'all, officially it is 33F, but out here in the burbs it's 27F and cloudy skies.  Expecting a partly cloudy day with a high of 55F, so hopefully we will see some melting today as yesterday's high of 53F made very little impact.  Chance of rain tonight, rain may switch to a wintery mix before dawn.  VDOT had promised to have all roads plowed within 48 hours of the end of the storm.  This morning VDOT is saying they are promising nothing.  Major roads are clear, but secondary roads and residential areas have not been touched and it may be days before they get these roads plowed... or it may just melt as weekend temperatures are expected to be quite warm.

Residential streets always put on the back burner, unless you are some rich bastard or a member of the city council. Hopefully you all can warm up and melt the crap off the streets. Would save the city $$. Of course you will never know about any savings as you get taxed one way or the other anyway. Here in Cedar Rapids we are prepared for winter's wrath, and they don't plow many of the residential streets for days either. They even put plow blades on the garbage trucks to help when it is a major event.

I hate winter.

Well, it's been an "interesting" day.  I went to the office, left the house around 1100.  Roads leading out of my neighborhood were nothing but icy, snowy, ruts.  Thank goodness my Honda CR-V has 4 wheel drive, otherwise I would have been one of the idiots stuck in the muck.  Roads in the adjoining neighborhood were good, but those houses average $100,000 more than those in my neighborhood, so they pay more in property tax and seem to get preferential treatment.  Main roads are clear and the parking lot and sidewalks at the office complex are clear.  Confirmed patients for tomorrow and called my employees to let them know what time to report for work.

Came home, my neighborhood has still not been touched.  One of my neighbors got her car stuck at the intersection at the bottom of the hill.  Went down there with my shovel and between shoveling, pushing with the aid of neighbor's daughter and another neighbor with a small front end loader we were able to clear enough road for her to get a running start, then we just pushed until she got her car to her driveway.  After all that, a contractor with a road grader showed up and plowed the street.  We all got out with our shovels and cleared the berms from our driveways while the neighbor with the front end loader cleared the huge ice berm that was left in the middle of the road.

I'll be glad to go back to being a dentist tomorrow, these snow days are killing me!
