From the way I read the report it looks like that's their SOP, taking cruisers home with them for whatever reason. Come to think of it the State Troopers around here usually take their patrol vehicles home with them after their shift too.

A lot of PDs are doing that, giving their officers "take-home" rides. We do it in some instances. They are on duty as soon as they turn the key on their duty days. Also is a hook for overtime. You got a car, you can be called out sort of thing. The rule is usually, its for duty purposes only. You can't take the wife out to dinner sort of thing. In his case tho, could have been the only means he had to get around after some ........"citizen" relieved him of his POV.
