S! I got one right here in the room next door

Doesn't that like scare the English?

I've heard that Europeans in general get twitchy when Americans start pulling out our flags...

Like I told of my friends from Macedonia on the Fourth of July once,"Y'all really don't have to worry until you see the ones with little streamers on them that look real oldlike, then ya best run fast." ;)

Ok well I am trying to be inoffensive and it is in the house. ;) American patriotism is a bit odd to them and some folks I spoke to actually asked me if I knew about some rule that said we HAVE to put at least one flag in all our movies. Apparently they stick out lots more to foreigners...oh wait I'm a foreigner, never mind. I then explained that we actually do have flags on our houses and cars, especially after 9-11. It isn't inaccurate that you see them in the movies constantly.

Continental Europe I don't know about the flag issue, but lots of Brits are reluctant to admit they are European. There's the continent and their culture and then there is Britain which is sort of the continent jr. but in no way subordinant and makes up the rest of Europe. They are not as adverse to US flags as you might think since they like aspects of our culture (though generally most dislike our foreign policy) and I think they would much rather see one than a French or German flag! There is in fact an American themed diner near my house with loads of American flags and they do lots of buisness.

Anyhow I don't think I would annoy anyone too much as long as it was under a Union Jack if it was publicly displayed, but that doesn't look right to me! Harks back to the colonies too much. I am decended from an American revolutionary so I can't bring myself to it!

Yeah I don't count the Brits as Europeans so much either, they're...Brits. But some of them that I know get really annoyed if you don't call them Europeans, then again they're mostly the odd ones of the ones I know...hmmm... ;)

When I was in college the one house I lived in always had a flag out front, and most of us had one in our rooms, in the partyroom there ware state flags from a lot of states from where we all were from, I remember for sure we had OH, PA, Texas, California and Georgia ones; as well as a Marine Corps and Navy one. This confused the hell out of our foreign exchange friends, all those flags, especially the Georgia one which was the old one with the Battle Flag as part of it, they all thought that was illegal for some reason. I prophetically said not yet and am still collecting beers on that prediction, the really amusing thing was the guy with the "illegal" Georgia state flag was black and really proud of his state...but I digress.

When a couple moved in, one from Macedonia and one from Malaysia, we asked them if they wanted to get one of theirs to hang up too. This really confused them until we told them to pretend it was a soccer game...about a month later the one got a package from home and we had a Macedonian one too. We had an Irish roomate too but we already had that covered having a bunch of Irish descended guys in the place. I had a Scottish flag in my room plus an Australian one (the Aussie one is a looooong story) so yeah we had a hell of a lot of flags.

I mean we're Americans, we like flags! They're purdy and stuff...plus saves on painting the walls of party rooms. ;)

Other cultures and their flags just add to our variety. (I am reluctant to use the pollitically charged word "diversity"). I have no problem with folks remembering where they are from as long as they are willing to adapt to America when they move there. ;)

It is a good thing to have lots of influences and ideas to choose from and yeah all the colors look cool and it makes you feel sort of well traveled and cultured. And it covers the wall as you say.
