First flight is now in the books. https://www.af.mil/News/Article-Display/Article/2500770/f-15ex-completes-first-flight/ Yeah, it is sort of a "back to the future" thing, but the F-15 is a battle tested, proven design that can be modernized and still be competitive in the roles of interceptor, air superiority fighter, and ground attack. The USAF is also rebuilding it's A-10 fleet for continued use in the close air support role, something that no other U.S. combat aircraft can do as well as the A-10. Two good decisions by the USAF!
