Happened this weekend in Florida.

The recovery of the aircraft:

Actually looked to be in good shape until a crane was used to drag it up the beach.  Looks to me like they might have run a tow cable around the engine cowl and prop and the result may be a bent or broken engine mount.

Update with analysis.  Dan Gryder is a long-time DC-3 pilot and trains pilots to fly the DC-3.  He knows his stuff and this is really bad.

Great video! Thanks for sharing Stans. That warbirds group should be stripped of all credentials and not be allowed to fly their aircraft ever again. Not tearing that engine down, during all the years of restoration is criminal. Why would you risk that aircraft by not doing the engine teardown? Unbelievable. The pilot of the TBM should have his pilots license revoked for life. He is a menace to all those in the air and on the ground.

Lack of standards for maintaining and flying aircraft, pilots without the required skills for the aircraft, and an airshow operator who failed to use proper standards for allowing the pilot to participate.

Part 2 of Dan's analysis with deeply disturbing revelations regarding the federal agency that oversees these organizations and aircraft, another well known, national vintage aircraft organization, and a very well known and respected pilot and aviation magazine author.  Absolutely shocking stuff.

He raises some good points, but the presentation is a bit irritating. If you know who DB Cooper is, just tell us...

Anyway, I guess it's not economically viable to run these old planes with proper maintenance etc. It's a pity to ground them, but I don't know what the alternative is.

It is economically straining to properly maintain them, it is economically disastrous to not properly maintain them.
