The new dll's apprears to soften the peaks of the waves in water=3, with water=4 looking more like the water=3 with the old dll's. Water=3 with the new dll's actually appears to be somewhere in between the old water=1 and water=3 in reference to water texture detail.

Shepherd
Is this something we all have to have? Where do we find it?
Stans
No, you don't have to have it, but for those with NVIDIA graphics cards these new dll's improve frame rates. Go to this thread for more info on the dll's. Always make back ups of the old dll's, just in case. dll madness at Ubi

mane_raptor
And a fine job you've done. On both counts... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yea, well Spec Ol'buddy, you can just too! I did the DL, will install AFTER the CPU upgrade this week And Stans, if this screws something up, remember I know how to use a pickax (see my "Morning" post). Deacon
All NVidias or just the 6xxx and 7xxx series?? No one in the Ubi forum has talked about anything other than these two..
Stans
Only listed as working with 6600, 6800, and 7800 series. Older cards are really on the lightweight side for trying to run Pacific Fighters.
Stans
What does all of this mean to us flying Scorched Earth, Kuban campaign? Maybe not a lot. Most of us have our biggest frame rate hit as we try to warm up our engines and then make the takeoff run, then frame rates increase once we are airborn. I ran a test using the ntrak I made during out December 10 mission. My trak starts in the cockpit, at 6 seconds I started the benchmarking. Engine is toggled, trim set, flaps set, tailwheel locked, canopy opened, then I switch to external view to observe the aircraft in front of me. Once the aircraft in front of me is well down the runway and appears to be in good shape for successful flight, I re-enter the cockpit and begin my roll. I stopped the benchmark at 3min, 6 sec into the flight. This was the time it took to take off, gain altitude, fly out to the coast and return over the airfield at 3550 feet altitude. Results: 2005-12-18 15:04:04 - il2fb water=1 old dll SE12-10-05 mission Frames: 5912 - Time: 180443ms - Avg: 32.764 - Min: 19 - Max: 53 2005-12-18 15:08:56 - il2fb water=1 new dll SE12-10-05 mission Frames: 5771 - Time: 179933ms - Avg: 32.073 - Min: 18 - Max: 54 Conclusion: Virtually no difference since we were predominately over land. New dll's only help over water, if you are having frame rate problems over land, the new dll's are not likely to help you.

mane_raptor
NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Dark Ages are sooooo much fun! What with jousting, dragon slaying, and rescuing damsels in distress from tall castle towers, I've hardly a free minute. Plus there's a plague or two ever few years, so that helps keep peasants under control.
