Thanks, Donnie

I might be in the market for a new vid card. Running an ASRock K7VT6 MB (FSB @ 333) with 1gb Ram. I'm using a FX5200 128 mb card now, would like to go to a 256mb card, Nvidia or ATI..........got any ideas? (Oh Yea, it's gotta be cheap too... ;) )

Ok....2 problems with the Nvidia 6800 256mg Red.....

1) I can't put any AGp card into the MB that uses 3.3v, need something with a lower power draw.

2) the price..........$450 at Tiger Direct..........there is no amount of Honey-Do items that I did that would let me get away with that!!!!!!!!!!

Remember I said CHEAP!!!!!!!!

:rofl::rofl:

Yeah, I'd say get the 6600GT or if you can, the 6800GT. I have the 6800 Ultra, got it when it was the hottest card on the market ( about 7 months ago), but since then I have seen a lot of comparison charts, some using Pacific Fighters, and the GT is almost as fast as the Ultra. Otherwise, I'd look at a 7800GT if I had the money.

No problem with the power supply, the rig has a 350.

What concerns me is this from the MB manual:

(Caution #2)

"Do NOT use a 3.3v AGP card on the AGP slot on this motherboard! It may cause permanent damage!"

When I look up the specs on these cards, very few times do I see any sign if the card is a 3.3 or lower. Is there any way of finding/figuring that out?

Perhaps check with the video card manufacturer's website. I think it is an issue with the amount of power the AGP slot can provide, with old AGP cards it is not a problem, but with the last round of cards, the power requirements are higher, thus the Molex connection which I think eliminated the need for the card getting its power through the AGP slot. I could be wrong on this issue.
